Hi, I have bought some new movies DVD last year, But I haven't played them so far, Would discs deintegrate and rust(I haven't even opened the packets) if I don't play them?

DVDs are plastic. They won't "rust" or disintegrate, for a VERY long time. I would say, they'd be good for 50 years...?

You mind find this interesting => What’s That Disc Made Of?

I would avoid however, keeping them in direct sunlight or near a fire for example because of warping.

    I hope this helps.

    Hi there
What's much more likely to happen is the optical heads for reading the Discs could become dirty / out of alignment rendering reading those Discs problematic to say the least.

The best advice I can give for people who still have DVD's is to rip them to ISO images then you can play them forever !!!!

Use programs like Redfox (used to be called Slyfox) DVD ripper -- not Free but works perfectly -- de-regionalises and de-crypts commercial DVD's before creating ISO / MKV etc. Works also on Blu Ray things too.

    Cheers

Discs are not made of rustable materials, so no worries there.

    However . . .

    1) In manufactured discs the silvered layer can be destroyed by stuff seeping through the plastic from the Label side. This layer is 0.6 mm thickness on DVDs, and 0.1 mm on CDs.

I have several examples of CDs where that has happened after maybe 10 years, very visible. The data could still be read as Optical Disc Readers these days cater for lower reflectivity CD-RW discs. Even though the silvering had gone in patches the data could still be read slowly as the lands and pits still existed.
None of my DVDs are old enough to see that effect.

    2) I have several manufactured DVDs which have got radial cracks appearing from the centre hole, gradually progressing across the active area. That was after several years. Unsurprisingly the one used the most had most problems and had to be replaced.
Not happened with writable discs, yet.

That Sony reference is good apart from the last bullet point about marking discs, don't, just label the jewel case.
30-100 years life expectancy is rather over optimistic.

The only DVD I've had fail was a Vista upgrade disk, sold by Microsoft. It delaminated over time. (The layers separated.)

I recall reading comments by analog audio freaks speaking of "digital rot" of audio CDs. (I believe that meant delamination.) Hasn't happened to any of my audio disks, some of which are 35 years old.
