External HD to smart tv ,problem being recognised

Hi , i have used external HD to record programs on my samsung tv. I recently got a new one which is 1TB using NTFS system. Same as the old one but more storage . It is not recognised by the tv ? It works ok in my laptop . I've run scan disk ,no errors. I tried formatting into Fat32 and ex Fat,still did not work. Any thoughts please.

Just a pure guess. Check if the old drive was MBR and if the new drive is GPT. Change the new drive to MBR if it is. Have it the same format as the old drive (Fat 32 maybe?). This would be something I would try but no real idea if it could be an issue.

Another thing I would try is to clone the old drive 'as is' to the new one and see if the TV recognises it. If it does then you could expand the partition with MiniTool afterwards. Failing that I'm out of ideas.

This is a link that shows how to clone with Macrium Reflect free. Obviously you do not select the C: drive so untick it. With both external drives connected select the original drive to clone to the new drive. For simplicity just clone the drive as is. The partition can be expanded later if it works. Don't bother with the adding a schedule. Keep it simple. So it should show three drives. The first is C: Untick the box on the left.
Select the original TV drive and select clone and select the third drive to clone to.

A lot of later android tv's firmware had NTFS removed from it, meaning ONLY Fat32 drives work, My Vodafone TV box did this (It also killed the USB port, so cannot even sideload).

Is that the cloned disk connected to the computer or TV? Seems the cloning has failed.
