    Storage Controllers in Device Manager

    Hi,
This is not a problem( i guess) but knowledge base query.Wish to understand this basic.
    I have a old laptop dell with i3(1st gen)/3gb/320gb sata/dvd/win 7 upgraded to win 10.
Here my device manager shows an entry of IDE ATA/ATAPI Storage controller and my sata controller listed under it.
Qst1. Why sata driver are listed under IDE section?(in bios sata drive set in ahci mode)

    Just purchased new laptop HP i3(10th)/8gb/1tb ssd/integrated graphics/no dvd/win 10 home
Here my device manager has no such entry like IDE ATA/ATAPI Storage Controller but has entry that says Storage controller and under it Intel Chipset Sata/pcie. (image attached)
Qst.2. Why that IDE ATA xxxx not listed in this new laptop?
How/why is this change when both the hdd are sata and running in ahci mode?

The controllers are embedded on the mobo. They are in charge of your storage drive ports...ie SATA ports. They get their own drivers.

Q1: is older technology for IDE and SATA drive setups. You had to manually change drive type...IDE/SATA/RAID

Q2: is newer technology for SATA and RAID drive setups. With most modern laptops.....they come setup as RAID, well the ones I've seen do. Now you don't have to go into the BIOS and mess with it.
