Replaced rom drive and it still won't read cd-rw's. What could it be?

Windows 10 Home. Honestly I posted at Windows Forum several days ago, but can't find post to continue posting to.

Anyway, as some of you may remember I couldn't get my rom drive to read cd-rw's. This AM I swapped out rom drive with a new one I had in the closet. It wasn't the drive. It still will not read cd-rw's. So what is the next step? Can we narrow it down? Could it be a more serious problem? Thank you. Earth1957.

    I hope this helps.

Can the drive read CD-R discs you've created? Can it read DVD-R or DVD+R discs that have data on them? I no longer use the RW [ReWriteable, can be erased and used again] as the R [Recordable, once] are so cheap at about 20-30 cents when buying in larger packs. [10 or more] and much more reliable in any drive. Several years some ODDs had problems reading colored discs such as those by a major brand.

Yes I can burn and play cd-r disks. I can also burn cd-rw disks using a Program called CDBurnerXP. Good software. I don't know it it will burn or play dvd disks because I don't have any dvd's to use. Yes I will also use the cd-r disks. I have a lot of those. What I can do is try to burn data to a cd-r disk and see if it will read back. Thanks Berton.

Berton, I tried to use a cd-r disk for data and it would burn, but it doesn't read the disk. But it will burn and play cd-r music just fine. I have nothing left to try. Thank you.

Are you able to test read the disc/s you created on another computer? Maybe a friend, library, school, computer shop?

I have another pc, but it doesn't work right now. I really don't feel like bothering taking the disk to library or shop. I don't understand it. Anyway the new rom drive didn't make any difference in reading data to a cd-r disk. CD-RW's are worthless at this point. Open for suggestions though. Thanks
