    Harddisk failure or not? Windows can't see it, hwinfo can see it


    I've tried the pool function in windows,and after a month something happened.
    Read errors occured, and I finally found ut that a drive was "error" (that's all, no warning or anything, I had to manually check the pool configuration to see this)

    I suspected that the drive had crashed.

    Now to the strange part (according to me), that Hwinfo have found and identified the hardisk that's supposedly crashed, and as far as I can see, it should work..

    Windows Disk Managment can't see it, msdos wmic can't see it and powershell Get-WMIObject win32_physicalmedia | Format-List Tag,SerialNumber command can't see it either..
    so, is the drive broke or is something else messing something up?

    ..and I'm only more confused, how can hwinfo see and read data, and also say that it should working..
    the Spindle motor and head fly motor is negative, but another (same model & working hd) also displays negative numbers..

    Now, this computer isn't at my place, so I've only examinated it via vnc, but I'm little lost here..

    Hello @Nemesis77,

    If you can at some stage . . .

    SFC And RestoreHealth

    [Q1] Have you run sfc /scannow from an elevated cmd prompt?
    [Q2] If so, were there any errors or violations?
    [Q3] Have you run Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth from an elevated cmd prompt?

    Elevated Command Prompt

    [1] Open an elevated cmd prompt [ Administrative ] by pressing the Win + X keys together and selecting Command Prompt (Admin).
    [2] Type sfc /scannow in the cmd prompt and press <ENTER>.
    [3] Type Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth in the cmd prompt and press <ENTER>.

    When the above has finished processing, COPY & PASTE the output data in the cmd prompt Window into your post . . .

    [4] Right-click on the title bar of the cmd prompt window [ where it says Administrator: Command Prompt ].
    [5] Scroll down to Edit and click Select All.
    [6] Right-click on the title bar again.
    [7] Scroll down to Edit and click Copy.
    [8] Paste the data into your post.

    SFC Error Report

    If SFC finds file errors that it CAN'T repair, the usual fix is to run the SFC and DISM commands up to three time sequentially, or until there are NO errors. However, if there are STILL SFC errors, type . . .

    findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log > "%userprofile%\Desktop\SFC_Details.txt"

    . . . into an elevated command prompt and press <ENTER>. This will create a SFC_Details.txt file on the Desktop. COPY & PASTE the information into your post or use a shared link [ One Drive, Drop Box, or Google Drive ].

    @Paul Black before I run dism, what does it do? it don't affect other locked drives, like encrypted ones..?

    [1] It checks [ and WILL repair ] the online Wim Image to see if there are ANY corruptions.
    [2] It will automatically use WU to perform ANY repair operations required, therefore, INTERNET ACCESS IS REQUIRED!
    [3] It DOES write any corruption data found to the Dism log file.
    [4] This could take quite a while to complete.

    NOTE: It may well stay at 20% for a while before continuing, so be patient!

    As an alternative, you can FIRST run Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth from an elevated cmd prompt. This will just notify you if there are ANY problems.

    If you require any further information on DISM, there are some excellent explanations on the Internet.

    Just as an example => How to use DISM command tool to repair Windows 10 image.
    Also, here is a TenForums Tutorial => Use DISM to Repair Windows 10 Image.

    @Paul Black No component store corruption detected.
    The operation completed successfully.

    I'm also unsure if recuva can detect the hardisk (Why can't they just use a standard name, if you see the attached photo, how am I supposed to know what drive is what?)
    can you see if these are the same?
