    Dell camera driver

I have an older Dell Inspirion 17 3721 with a New SSD drive and a fresh, up to date install of Win 10. I can find any sign of a driver for the enclosed camera. Checked everywhere in win 10. I have been looking around and so far there doesn't seem to be any support from Dell on this Laptop.
So, my question is, does anyone know of a safe alternate place to go to hunt this driver down. We use the laptop for Skype and wanted to try out Zoom on it. My desktop PC does not have a camera at all. Yes, I could go out and buy a clip-on camera but I don't want to spend the money. Have put enough into the laptop as it is.

Have you tried putting your Service Tag in at www.support.dell.com to check for drivers for your particular model? Does your model have an Fn + another F key for turning it on or maybe disabled in the BIOS?

    • To open up your webcam or camera, select the Start Windows logo Start button button, and then select Camera in the list of apps.
    • If you want to use the camera within other apps, select the Start Windows logo Start button button, select Settings Gear-shaped Settings icon > Privacy > Camera, and then turn on Let apps use my camera.
    • From there, turn on each of the listed apps where you want to use the camera. Test your camera here

Yes I have the extra F key but there is nothing that directs me to a camera; pus , as far as win 10 in concerned, there is no camera. I bought this Laptop from a Pawnshop0 is Arizona a number of years ago and Dell refused to support it as I was not their listed owner, even though I had a legitimate receipt. So while in Arizona a group of us in the computer club totally wiped the drive and I purchase win 8.1 for it. Took us a lot of work to obtain all the drivers even then, with no help from Dell of course
( and yes, I do see their point; but I had a receipt which meant nothing.
No now, I have a fresh install of Win 10 on it and all is well except for a couple of drivers; blue tooth is another but not a big deal.

I will check out the bios today.

If you want to get hands on support from Dell, you have to contact Dell and present your receipt and if the computer is not registered to anyone else, Register with Dell. But you don't need to do that.
You can download the drivers directly from Dell.

the Web cam is enabled, just have to Allow it for specific Apps. Please follow the suggestions in post #3. If that fails, try updating the Bios from the Download page.

The ~7-yr-old Inspiron 17 3721 uses an integrated 1 megapixel webcam driven by native Windows drivers. If you've checked Dell's US support site then you'll already know that there's no specific Dell webcam driver download for it... not for Windows 10 nor earlier.

    1. I suggest you first check Device Manager to see whether the webcam shows (either under 'Cameras' or 'Imaging Devices').

    2. Make sure you are running the latest available BIOS and chipset. (See this Dell support link.)

    3. Try Dell's online diagnostic test. I live in the UK and use a Dell laptop so I use https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-uk/quicktest. See if there is a US equivalent, e,g, https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/quicktest. (Sorry... I can't pre-test this link as it automatically reverts to the UK equivalent.)

    4. Next, try the Dell Support Assistant. I understand from a Dell Support forum mod that it includes a 'camera' diagnostic test. It can be downloaded from Dell here.

    5. If Device Manager and diagnostics show a webcam is present (but not working) then check that it has not been disabled for app use under Settings > Privacy > Camera. (I've just had this happen to a friend trying to use Zoom. Note also that privacy apps like ShutUp10 can also disable use of the camera.)

    Hope this helps...

    web cam

Yes I found that there is no web-cam driver available at Dell. Went to their sight several times. All kinds of downloads available but not that one.
So I will dig into the Windows 10 drivers . When I go into windows 10 ANYWHERE, no camera at all. Ran the web cam test ; no camera. It did work in the past (year or so ago ).
Also ran the Dell bios updater just in case.
I don't want to give up; got to be way!!
Still have the original HD just in case I run into big-troubles. I can then do a re-migration onto the SSD drive.

    Did you go to https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-ca?lwp=rt
    enter your Dell service tag,
    click on the Downloads tab,
at the end of the list click on Show all … downloads
then look through the whole list?

As I said earlier, I don't have a "Dell Service Tag" and there are, as far as I and others can see no download for webcam drivers.

    As I said earlier, I don't have a "Dell Service Tag" ...

Every Dell is issued a unique service tag when manufactured. It should be on a sticker on the base of the laptop. There should also be an express service code which can be used interchangeably with the service tag.

    https://www.dell.com/support/content...e-tag/notebook

If you can't find the sticker, the service tag should also be held in your bios. Hit F2 at start up to enter the bios then look in the Maintenance section of the bios settings.

Apparently that is because, according to a Dell spokesman...
