Samsung SCX-4500 printer work on upgrade but not fresh install

I upgrades to Win 10 the the above network/wireless printer worked fine. I've now done a fresh install and it doesn't!

The scanning function works but trying to print produces an error. I've been advised by Samsung support that their driver doesn't support Win 10 and that they don't know when a new version will be released. They said it would still function under the upgrade as it still had access to the old Win 7 drivers there.

Anyone have a workaround for this? Anyway of making the Win 7 drivers available on a fresh Win 10 install?

    Thanks

Have you tried the Windows 8.1 driver? They should work in most cases.

    Hi there Geoff,

Assuming this is for the SCX-4500W
Try installing the latest Samsung universal print driver. It's available about half-way-down on their SCX-4500W support page

    Universal Print Driver

    Win XP/2003/2008/Vista/Win 7/Win 8(32/64bit), 21.34 MB, exe, MULTI LANGUAGE
    Version : V2.50.06.00:03

And hey...oh yeah...if that driver resolves the problem you should also install and use the Microsoft Hide and Show Updates utility to prevent Win10 from changing the driver automatically (as it may try and roll you back).

Thanks - The universal driver was the one I tried. However, on going back to the page I also noticed an oldeer driver form 2009. Loaded this an all good! Might have been nice for Samsung support to be aware of this?!

    Thanks

In my experience, most support call center agents really haven't got a clue. You may as well ask the cat or the guy crawling out the pub after downing a dozen pints.

Good your problem is solved. Happy days for you, your device and win10!
