Hard drive not recognized by pc after plugging in to tv

I plugged my external USB drive into my Samsung TV to watch a film, worked fine.
I then plugged it back into my pc and it tells me drive not accesible.
I've tried all usb ports on the pc without success. Any ideas? Cheers

Plug it back into the TV and check if it still works and if not you know it has died.

Reboot the computer before you plug the hard drive back into it. Click on the power icon, then restart.

    diskpart
    list disk
select disk # <- replace # with the actual number for the USB disk
    detail disk

    What are the results?

    Code:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32>diskpart

    Microsoft DiskPart version 10.0.19041.610

    Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation.
    On computer: JOHN-LAPTOP

    DISKPART> list disk

Disk ### Status Size Free Dyn Gpt

      Disk 1 Online 476 GB 0 B *

    DISKPART> select disk 1

Disk 1 is now the selected disk.

This is why I would see users have dedicated drives for their consoles and smart TV's. There always seems to be this sort of thing happening.

What I think happened is that the files system was corrupted or more likely switched to a file format that the PC doesn't recognize anymore and therefore can't read it.

I wonder if you can run a linux distro from a USB on the PC and then connect the drive in question....will the distro pick up the drive.

Some Linux LiveDVDs have GPARTED or that program can be downloaded as an .iso used to create the bootable GPARTED LiveCD. Nice thing about GPARTED is it can work with a number of drive formats, could be that portable drive got formatted or the formatting screwed up by the TV. Windows doesn't work with many drive formats, part of why I keep a Linux machine available. Similar with Mac OS X, could read but not write NTFS without additional software, haven't checked the newer/replacement macOS.
