    Erratic mouse, Win 10.0.19042

Over the last couple of weeks my mouse pointer has been moving erratically. The optical sensor is clean as is the mouse mat and the mouse worked perfectly previously. As far as I know there has not been a windows update nor any other software installed since the erratic behaviour started.
Over the last couple weeks I have managed to restore normal behaviour by:
Sometimes just rebooting a couple of times. or
Disabling all services, except MS software, in msconfig, re-booting and then re-enabling the services one by one until they were all running again. or
Disabling all start-up software via Task manager, re-booting and then re-enabling the same software.
Today however none of those actions have cured the erratic behaviour.

NB the system spec is not as in my profile, it is
    Win 10.0.19042
    Asrock Z77 extreme 4
    Intel i5-2500k
    32GB DDR3 RAM
    Nvidia GTX1060 6GB
Logitech g203 mouse (there appears to be no specific drivers for this mouse)
    Avast AV is running
    Any help very much appreciated.

I have now and the problem persists.
The jerky movement is evident even while the blue "Please wait" screen us visible while the PC is booting.
I should add that I've checked C: for errors (all OK) and scanned the whole system for viruses and it's clean.
I have tried different USB ports both mo/bo and a powered hub.

    It still misbehaves.
Thinking it might be a GPU driver issue I dropped the Nvidia driver back to a September version; the problem persisted.
What puzzles me is why i could get it working before today but through some odd actions.

When the issue happens in safe mode too, usually it's sign of either a windows or hardware problem.

    Try DISM and SFC: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...rrupted-system

eddman & colsearle, many thanks for your help, the problem has been solved, for good I hope
I had run the sfc command this morning and that didn't solve the problem but i have just run DISM, re-booted and the mouse is now behaving.
Once again many thanks for your help.

Sadly the erratic mouse is back
I fired up the PC this evening and the mouse was stuttering again, even in safe mode.
I ran sfc /scannow and the DSIM cmd, the erratic behaviour continued.
I also have a new problem and I wonder if the two are linked.
Today the sound on my logitech G430 headset (using USB) had pauses as if something was cutting off the sound for a second or so. The sound from my Soundblaster Audigy speakers was distorted for a second or so.
Just fired up a game and trying to walk that went in jerks rather than a smooth walk as it should do.
Given the age of the system I'm beginning to wonder if the mo/bo and/or CPU are failing.

Just re-booted, without making any changes, and now the mouse is working correctly, as is the sound and walking in the game is normal: at least that indicates those 3 events are linked. Go figure!
Tomorrow if the mouse is misbehaving I'll just try re-booting a few times.

Sorry to say I ended up reinstalling Windows, I got so frustrated trying to fix the problem.
What I can say is, I didn't change any hardware so my USB ports and hub are the same but the erratic mouse problem is no more.
I hope you manage to sort out the problem.
