dwm.exe error on Acer V5-471 win 10-20h2 home at start-up
t would appear that the DWM.exe error has been around for several years. I will add my own experience to see if anyone who has resolved the issue as I haven't. For the record we are on Win 10 20h2, we have Intel 3000 graphics (eg not a Nvidia issue). The system was originally shipped with Win 8, Acer has not updated any drivers for Win 10/64. note no issues show up on the device manager. No other issues show up in the Event manager. Problem started in 09/20 when we were on 2004. All Win 10 Updates have been installed - we fully up-to-date, including optional driver updates.

The problem occurs at start up, frequently with screen resetting on start up (flash-like), sometimes freezing especially if the system has been changed, frequently while undertaking the following tests, eg after SFC fixed some issues successfully (but not DWM).

We tried the following:
Solution 1 – Check your computer for malware - Done - no issues
Solution 2 – Restart explorer.exe - not applicable as issue is only on startup
Solution 3 – Remove third-party antivirus programs - done (& re-installed)
Solution 4 – Disable problematic services - done(Google update removed)
Solution 5 – Check your USB devices (non present)
Solution 6 – Delete the mdi264.dll (not present)
Solution 7 – Disable Chrome Pepper Flash extension (not present)
Solution 8 – Install older graphics card drivers - Tried, no difference, also tried Microsoft default graphics driver
Solution 9 – Adjust Performance settings - done
Solution 10 – Run the SFC scan - done
Solution 11 – Run DISM - done
Solution 12 – Try with the Performance troubleshooter - done
Solution 13 – Change the wallpaper/screensaver N/A (standard)
.Solution 14 – Disable Hardware acceleration in Office programs - done
Solution 15 – Remove Logitech SetPoint software N/A
Solution 16 – update BIOS - not possible on this laptop
Solution 17 - rebuild Win10 - not tried as there are reports that this doesn't resolve the problem - a lot of work for no result.
Anyone got a solution?
