Camera not working with Skype

Hi All
Lenovo ideapad 305 Windows 10 home 64 bit. All updates
Last worked with Skype and Zoom back around June now does not work
Camera can be seen working on Lenovo Vantage settings
but skype just shows black screen
Skype works with external USB camera
PC Settings shows camera is on, apps can access camera, skype has access, desktop app web view has access
Camera drivers are up to date. Camera does NOT appear in device manager
Skype is latest version.

Any clues as to what might be wrong?

If camera does NOT appear in device manager it may have a hardware problem.
Under device manager, did you do a Action - scan for hardware changes?
What is the Win 10 version? Run winver to find out.

Windows is Version 2004 (OS Build 19041.572)

I thought about hardware problems but the device works correctly in the Lenovo Vantage app.
Also if Skype makes an attempt to access the camera this is noted in 'time last used' even though no picture is generated

So yes, a hardware fault except that it works in Lenvo Vantage app and I've updated the drivers.
And now I have run out of ideas!

If it's working under Lenovo Vantage app it should has a driver under device manager.

Well I can't see one!!!

If I plug in an external USB camera then a camera heading appears in Device Manager and the USB camera is listed. Remove the USB camera and the entire camera section disappears

Cant remember if I said but,for hte avoidance of doubt, the Internal Lenovo camera appears as a selectable camera in Skype, its just that when selected it does not work (black screen)

In case anyone else has the same problem . . . . .

ALL the official driver files (at least that I could find) do NOT have the correct driver in them and so the installation either fails (no appropriate driver) or installs the old 2015 driver which is the problem

Eventually I used Driver Genius to recommend a working driver from 2017 that fixed the problem


The file was called Sonix EasyCamera Driver 2017 Windows-Vistax64-7x64-8x64-8-1x64-10x64
and I think there are later versions

PS Camera does not appear under cameras but under "imaging"!!!
