advice on a sick external drive

I have an older external hard drive that around 100 video files that I am unable to transfer to my other drives.

I know it’s slowly dying and I want to save the files if I can.

When I try to copy or move the files to another drive everything is find until somewhere around 15-20% is copied and then Windows changes the time to transfer from couple minuets to an hour. It usually stops there and nothing is transferred.

I tried to check the drive for errors but it seemed to get stuck doing that. I tried to use Recoverit but that just found deleted files and didn’t seem to see the files I want.

    i'm running windows 10 ver. 2004

Disk Management says is NTSF and healthy.

    Any advice?

See if you can copy and paste portions.

Create a Linux Live CD (USB flash drive), boot from that, and copy the files off to a known good drive.

Then, boot back into Windows and run chkdsk /r on it.
