Audio glitches after windows 10 clean install, I've tried everything!

    The problem:
Streaming audio (or video) through a browser, chrome in this instance (I've tried others). I like to have pandora/youtube playing while I work on my files in lightroom and photoshop, the audio is fine while chrome is the selected window, but as soon as it's in the background with lightroom in the foreground the audio chops and stutters like how it sounds when jiggling a loose cable. I can run cpu intensive processes and the music is fine ONLY if chrome is the selected window, but as soon as it's in the background I have the problem.

After lots of google-fu I've tried:

    • Disabling flash players in chrome.
    • Re-installing latest audio drivers.
    • Disabling audio drivers.
    • Increasing the audio buffer size in chrome.
    • Using different browsers, the only program to avoid the problem is the standalone spotify app.
    • Not a network speed issue, I have 100+ mb/s download.

No problems on windows 7 for over a year, this issue has only arisen after updating to windows 10 (On a clean install).

Try running the media in different browsers. I stopped using Chrome because it swallows up loads of memory and CPU. I had been running it for years, it's just too much bloat.

When you are looking at pages in a live Chrome window, everything seems fine, Until you minimize it, then your whole system starts to choke. If you have CCleaner Pro running, it might try to "clean" your Chrome caches while the windows are minimized, or, Windows 10 is doing it. I've always noticed that the resources for all Chrome processes increase exponentially when they are minimized. Even when it is not showing a window, there will be up to 8 Chrome processes running in your task manager.

I've tried different browser, issue is still the same .
I have 16gb of ram which should be plenty enough to process it all, it was running fine on windows 7 so I don''t think ram is to blame here.

It's not Ram per se, but when the Windows are minimized. The Processes are choking, maybe I have it reversed, maybe the processes are trying to use *less* resources when minimized, that would cause the same thing as if too much resources. You may have to leave the window open. Or increase the priority of the Chrome window that is running the video.

Sorry for the confusion, the window remains open, not minimized. If i click on chrome and have it selected, the audio is fine, but when I start working in the lightroom window the audio stutters.

Click the three small horizontal bars at the top right of your Chrome browser.
    Click 'Settings' near the bottom.
Click 'Show advanced settings' at the bottom.
UN-CHECK 'Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed.'
    Delete the tab.

I have a similar problem, but in my case I've found that it has nothing to do with the browser window being active or minimized (I use Firefox, not Google Chrome). It only happens when the computer is in my bedroom. I don't get the glitch when I'm in other rooms in the house.

    Odd...

THIS might work, try it... It is sounding more like when you have the second window up, that's when the glitches start.

Do you mean my router? That has always been in the bedroom and I never had any sound glitches with Windows 7. And yes, it's a laptop.
