Sorry folks -- Had it with AMD and AMD graphics

I know there's loads on these boards who swear by AMD

I really have a problem with these processors

Decent AMD processor (4 core) on 32 GB machine has problems when running a Windows VM using SlyFox (or modern equivalent) to rip a DVD into an iso image. Using Samsung external DVD device for the DVD that I'm ripping to iso image.

Get "Cannot read DVD" and all sorts of associated errors

Running the same VM on a lowly 8GB HP laptop (i5 CPU) with Intel graphics etc -- no problems whatsoever

Running the same VM also on a NAS with a lowly INTEL Celeron procesor and 16 GB RAM with NVIDIA graphics -- no problem either.

Bye Bye AMD -- I like competition but I just have too many problems currently with AMD --

If a 4 core processor with 32 GB RAM can't do what a lowly laptop with just 8GB RAM handles with ease -- Bye Bye AMD

Any chance you have a BIOS update or issue going on with your mobo you are running the AMD system on? I've had great experiences with AMD myself.

I hardly think that, based on the evidence so far, you can blame the AMD CPU (and certainly not the GPU !).

Out of interest, on what platform did you create the VM?

I hear you Jimbo! I know about the problems with AMD.
I'll never own one. Nope. Not ever.

Been using AMD with no obviously 'AMD' problems since 1998.

For me its Intel for CPU. However its because audio latency is better for my recording studio. I've been told by a person that owns a custom recording studio PC business that its "Intel for audio and AMD for video processing and gaming".

OTOH I use AMD for video card. It too plays better with recording audio. I've had dropouts, clicks, etc in recorded audio with every NVIDIA video card I've tried or tested.

Sorry but am I missing something, is it the DVD drive that is the issue?

Or how about the fact that he is running it on an Insider Preview?

Unless the other computers/laptops are running the same Insider Preview, makes you wonder where the problem may be.

Don't believe the hype - as both a gamer and photographer who also deals with video.... Intel works just fine.

That said, I've never had an AMD processor, but have been using (ATI) AMD graphics cards since NVidia bought out 3dfx. Never had and issue with sound, video, or gaming that made me say I need to switch sides. That's me.

And this have nothing to do with "bashing" AMD.

I was just passing on what the builder stated. His business is building custom processing PC's for big clients, such as American Idol, movie studios, broadcasting studios and recording studios.
