Sounds good. The Active@filerecovery will not download demo. Seems you have to buy it only. Since you know more about these software's, which would you use? I trust your judgement. Obviously I would prefer to use the less expensive but have no problem paying for higher price one. Let me know.

Active@ File Recovery - Find & Restore Lost Files: Undelete deleted files and recover damaged disks

Right click on the "Download Demo" tab > Open link in new tab > Save . That should download the demo version. Install.
We had recommended both to users. Those who used Active@ File recovery said its good. Those who used GetDataBack said its good. . So try both and choose the one you like. But make sure to preview /open the files to ascertain their integrity before you buy a license.. They won't refund after you purchased the software and then found it is not useful..( Out of the two I had tried only GetDataBack. I use it only for ascertaining that data is there. In most cases TestDisk can recover the data for free. And then there are a few cases where TestDisk will not recover the data. Only then we recommend use of commercial software to recover the data. Then SIW2 recommended Active@ File Recovery since it is cheaper.. From then onward we have been recommending both allowing users to try both and choose the one they like)

Ran Active File Recovery last night. Looks like it will work. FYI, took 11 hours on 4G My Book. A little unsure how to save all docs when I run paid for version. I will read up on it in the manual if it is in there.

    This is what I found:

Without knowing anything about Active@ File Recovery, I am unable to comment anything on it except that your 4GB HDD seems to have a number of bad sectors as indicated by the SuperScan. Needless to say that all data on those bad sectors will be corrupt whether you recover it with Active@ File Recovery or with Getdataback.

In the left Pan, on Super scan "My Book (5) (Not Bad)" what does it show? Do you anywhere see the contents of My Book in the original Folder /file structure as shown in Getdataback?

In any case you have the physical possession of the HDD and the best judge to decide which one to use based upon files integrity check and your needs whether you would like to keep the original file structure or happy with a bunch of files without the original file names. Expect some bad files due to bad sectors.

As for Recovery in Active@ File recovery you may have to connect another external drive and click on Recovery Tab in the main Menu and show that external HDD as destination to copy.

I went with Active@filerecovery. Found a lot of bad sectors but was able to restore majority of the files. It was also a great learning experience for me. Maybe I can help others in the future.

Thanks to all who reponded. A special thanks to jiuanji for your support. Glad your here. Would not have accomplished this without out jiuanji.
