USB 3.0 Hub [Will it decrease speed]?

One of my two USB 3.0 ports on my Laptop is damaged and no longer working. So when I want to copy something from am external HDD to Another external HDD one of them is always in a USB 2 port and the copy speed is around 25MB/s which is very slow. Copying a file from my PC to the HDD on the usb 3 port is fast (120MB/s).

I was wondering if I buy a USB 3.0 hub and connect it to the working USB 3 port will I be able to benefit from full USB 3 speeds again with two disks connected or will the speed be devised in two or...??

I haven't used an external hub in years, but a good one ought to give you the full bandwidth.

The available "data bandwidth" (5 Gigabits/s maximum, not achievable in practice), will be shared between the connected devices.

But you won´t notice any significant reduction in speed if you connect 2 HDDs, even it they work simultaneously, because they are too slow. If you connect SATA SSDs you may notice the speed reductions.

To assure full performance I'd use a Hub, either USB 2 or USB 3, that is self-powered, has its own power supply.

    See this link:

What Is the Difference Between Shared & Independent USB Ports? | Small Business - Chron.com.

    Bandwidth Considerations

Much like a data network, a USB port has limited bandwidth that it can share between devices.

Usage varies from device to device.

In an independent USB port, virtually all bandwidth – a total of 480 Mbps for 2.0 ports, and as much as 5 Gbps for 3.0 ports – is available for a single device.

USB standards devote 10 percent of all data bandwidth to control, and reserve the rest for device use.

In a shared environment, that bandwidth is shared between all devices.

High-bandwidth peripherals, such as Web cameras or audio recorders, may experience lower performance when connected to a shared USB port.
