I believe it's just the effect of NTFS log files.
To check, use something like Lockhunter... you'll soon see PID 4 and be able to expand it to see what metadata files are open.
I like Lockhunter because it's always available from a right-click context menu when I have the same issue:
This post suggests removing the drive's drive letter then re-instating it amongst other solutions.
