    wireless mouse advice

    Robot Check

I keep hitting the dongle for my mouse and I am looking at this one. I believe it will work on my Dell laptop. Looking for confirmation of that. Thanks very much.

I use Bluetooth mice with several Notebooks, Dell and HP, both the built-in/part of the Wireless adapter and a couple with small dongles where there is no built-in Bluetooth. It does help save a USB port for something else. I mostly use Targus BT mice but have a Microsoft Sculpt and an older Microsoft. Check in Device Manager that you have Bluetooth and I like to have the icon showing in the Notification Area.

I do have it and I put it in notification area. So I should purchase that one...think I will. Thank you.

    Hi patriceltic,

have you verified that you can't use the internal BT on your laptop to connect your mouse? I just finally got around to pairing my mouse with the laptop and gained another USB connection after ditching the dongle.

Type bluetooth and other devices settings into the search box on your taskbar, then enter.

Make certain Bluetooth switch is set to On.

Click add bluetooth or other device.

On the 'Add a device', click on Bluetooth.

Make certain your mouse is set to pairing mode.
Click on the icon when your mouse appears in the add a device window.
    That's it.

Well I do have BT. When I purchase the mouse, I will do the steps as you recommend. Thanks.

You're most welcome. I hope you're able to ditch the dongle and gain an available usb port like I did.

I would guess that most newer mice should be able to be paired directly with your laptop. You might ask the question if you're shopping for a new mouse.

Interesting Thread, I have never tried a Bluetooth mouse, but liberating a USB port appeals; has anyone noticed any performance disadvantages with a Bluetooth mouse?

I haven't used a wired mouse in about 20 years. Then again, I'm not a gamer and I believe a wireless mouse is unsatisfactory for gaming. At least, that's what gaming folks say.

I now actually use a gaming mouse that has lots of features relating to performance. I haven't noticed any huge benefits over the last generic Logitech wireless mouse I used. It's plenty fast enough for my use.

    Update;

I found a deficiency, this may be important to some and not others. Now that my mouse is using the internal bluetooth instead of the USB dongle, poking the mouse won't wake the PC from sleep. Touching a key or the touchpad might work for some configurations. I prefer to have the extra USB port available and will find another method to wake my PC.

The only game I play is Angry Birds 2. I can't imagine it would not be good for that. It isn't about speed - just accuracy -- I guess.

I am hesitant to purchase a B T mouse as I do seem to have issues with linking another device to bt. I do the "add device" bit and it comes up with a bunch of different numbers of things - not sure what those numbers are for. Anyway, yesterday when I said add device it kept failing to do so - then I tried it again it came up with "ATT" and success - device is now ready. This is not an ATT device - where do I find the numbers for the mp3 player. Thanks.

This is from the description at link you posted above for the mouse.

    • 【MODE 2: BLUETOOTH MODE】Connects directly to Bluetooth-enabled device without the need for a receiver.Easy to pair and connect, and do not occupy any USB port.

As for the numerous bluetooth items appearing in the add a device window, every other appliance or device in your house might be bluetooth enabled these days.

If you have bluetooth compatibility concerns, you might investigate the properties of the bluetooth device used in your PC.
As for pairing the mp3 player, there should be a pairing procedure within the device documentation, if it has the feature.

Search the mp3 manufacturers name, model # and bluetooth pairing i.e. AGPTEK G15 bluetooth pairing

Try the following ways if your AGPTEK Player can not be connected/paired to Bluetooth device - Agptek forum

BTW, the mouse you have referenced earlier wouldn't be my first choice for a couple of reasons, I admit, I'm a bit of a mouse snob.

I must have forward and back navigation buttons as a minimum feature. It saves lots of effort for browsing or even navigating Windows Explorer.

I also prefer AA batteries. I have many Nimh rechargable AA batteries and wouldn't touch anything with an embedded proprietary cell. I've used the same mouse for almost 10 years before I replaced it, maybe that was a fluke.
