Can't get Logitech K270 keyboard to work

I have a Logitech K270 wireless keyboard that I found along with a Logitech wireless mouse. The mouse has a unifying receiver. I plugged the receiver into a desktop computer and ran the Logitech firmware update, but only the mouse works. I made sure I had both devices turned on when doing the update, but to no avail.

I also tried this using my laptop. Still no luck.

Should I just throw away the keyboard?

Did the mouse and keyboard come as a set? If not the unifying dongle may be wrong for the keyboard which would explain why only the mouse works. The mention of "found" suggests the set may have gotten separated from each other as some point.

Not all Logitech K270 keyboards are compatible with the "unifying" receivers - the ones that come as part of a set are not. If it is of the "unifying" type it will have the Logitech unifying logo on a label underneath the keyboard.

Actually, I found them both next to the curb to be taken by the garbage man. But they both were clean and in physically good shape. I assumed they were used together since they were placed out there together, along with an older LCD TV.

I'm not home right now to check it, but will look at the underside for that unifying logo. I know the receiver has it, but I'll have to check it under the keyboard. So far, I don't remember seeing it there.
However, I just did a google search about it, and it appears that it actually is a unifying keyboard: Wireless Keyboard K270 Full-size, Unifying wireless

Would this mean that it should work with any receiver as long as it is a unifying receiver?

Again, to repeat myself "Not all Logitech K270 keyboards are compatible with the "unifying" receivers - the ones that come as part of a (MK270 Mouse/Keyboard) set are not" (although I expect they are still labelled as K270).

All Logitech "unifying" keyboards can be made to work with any Logitech "unifying" receiver - that's the whole point of the "unifying" system.

As one who owns a few Logitech keyboard and Mice I'd like you to explain what you mean here

Also which Logitech "K270" keyboards aren't "compatible with the "unifying" receivers"?

    WIRELESS KEYBOARD K270
    USB UNIFYING RECEIVER

And you could add up to, I believe 6 devices to the unifying software provided the device supports it.

Then I guess my keyboard isn't going to work.
Funny thing though. I have a cheap wireless mouse that I think I bought about 10 years ago for $5 on sale (a Logitech K185) and was surprised to find that the "unifying" symbol is on the mouse, but not its receiver. However, this mouse does not work with the unifying receiver I found with the unifying mouse it belonged to.

Is the mouse & keyboard listed under the unifying software?
If the keyboard isn’t then check that it has been set up correctly & that there is no corrosion on the battery terminals which may be preventing the keyboard from turning on or working correctly.

I have to whole heartedly disagree with that statement as "Logitech" (you know... that company that produces them)" says differently.

With that, if it isn't working, then I guess you figured out why they were set laying next to the dumpster
