The request failed due to a fatal device hardware error - External HD

    Hi,

So I did some research and still I cannot fix this problem.

Early this morning I was transferring my files from my laptop to my external because my laptop is getting full already and accidentally plugged out the external while transferring files. Now my external hard drive will not show up on my computer whenever I try to plug in.

So here how it looks like on the disk management, whenever I try to initialize it says:
the request failed due to a fatal device hardware error

The request failed due to a fatal device hardware error - External HD-untitled.png

I'm also trying to recover files with EaseUS, the problem is the external cannot be detected on the pc itself, it only says disk 2.

Thanks in advance to anyone who could help me out.

    Some decent advice here:
Quick fix for “the request failed due to fatal device hardware error”

    https://appuals.com/fix-the-request-failed-due-to-a-fatal-device-hardware-error/

    - shows that exact error message

    - check the status if the drive as suggested there and with any tool such as Crystal Diskinfo and Hard Disk Sentinel (trial) is especially good.

Were you moving (dangerous to an external drive as things can..er.. go wrong..) or copying the data?

    disk unknown not initialised
    e.g. (plenty of results)
6 Ways to Fix Disk Unknown Not Initialized in Windows 10/8/7 - EaseUS
Unknown Not Initialized - Can’t initialize disk in Windows 10

I hope you have a full backup for your laptop - so here's another plug for routine and regular disk imaging (e.g. Macrium Reflect - free- paid) plus large enough external storage for image files.

If so, recovery should be painless even if you were moving the data. (Have you checked the source data to see if you actually lost any?)

The forum prompted you for your full build number so we don't have to keep asking.

    Hi @ivntiamzon

    Welcome to Ten Forums.

Please give full details of your external drive.. Manufacturer ???? Model Name ; ??? Model Number: ???? Capacity:??? Is it a desktop variety with a power adapter? Or Is it a portable one?
    1. Try with another USB port.
    2. Try with another cable.
    3. Try on another computer.

    Have a look at this
Full Solutions to Fix Disk Unknown Not Initialized (2 Cases)

Case 2: Disk Unknown Not Initialized No size in Disk Management is applicable to you. And in that Solution 2 .

Ok. There are two possibilities. 1. The SATA to USB bridge inside the enclosure has become faulty. The HDD inside is good. 2. The SATA to USB bridge is not faulty. Only the HDD inside has failed.

Which one we do not know. The only way you can check it is to buy an external enclosure and put the HDD inside and check. If the HDD is good you are lucky. You can access it. If your HDD still does not show, that is it. You can't do anything but to discard it or send it for professional data recovery at great cost.

Please note that in some compact portable externals , the HDD inside does not have a SATA connector.. ( The SATA to USB bridge is directly soldered to the HDD). So you cannot put it inside an external enclosure and try.

Hi, thanks for giving me your suggestion guys. @dalchina - I did that but the problem is whenever I plugged in the HDD it has this sound that I plugged in the hdd, but on the cmd and management the size of the HDD is 0 bytes and cannot be initialized.

I'm just here at my table transferring my files.

    Thanks for the suggestion
    @jumanji - I am using ADATA HD710M Pro 2TB

    1. I tried with a laptop and desktop still no to avail.
    2. Already tried 3 cables still not working(but my other HDD are working with different cables)
    3. I already tried it it shows on the device manager but not on my computer

Replying to your Case 2 - suggestion.
Do you have any idea what kind of enclosure do I need to buy? Because I'm not really good at tech stuff.

@jumanji it is a portable one, without needing to put on outlets

Returning to a question I asked about your data- were you moving data?
Is all data on your laptop still present?
If not do you have a backup?

I assume you mean the SMART params are not available:
    - check the status if the drive as suggested there and with any tool such as Crystal Diskinfo and Hard Disk Sentinel (trial) is especially good.

If you don't have a backup, have you considered using recovery software to see if you can recover what has not been damaged by having been overwritten?

(Basically the more you use the PC, the greater the probability of the data being overwritten).

You could try this portable (i.e. put it on a flash drive, not your internal disk) program:
    Recuva - Portable version

For the future: better to COPY data then delete where it is important or large in case the transfer (especially externally) fails or is interrupted.

I have no idea about ADATA external HDDs. I also do not know how easy it will be to pry it open and take the 2.5"HDD out. Also not known whether the 2.5 HDD has a SATA connector or it is directly soldered to the USB bridge. You have to decide on it.

As for external enclosures, you can buy an enclosure that can take only 2.5" HDDs or ones that can take both 3.5" and 2.5". I am not an expert in hardware but I have ORICO external enclosures.

    2.5" only: Robot Check

    2.5"/3.5": Robot Check

You can check other brand enclosures also on Amazon.

And yes, as dalchina pointed out , you should always copy the data and never move the data. After ascertaining that the data has been successfully copied, you can delete the data from the source HDD , if you want to. ( I never move. I only copy)

    Hi @ivntiamzon

I just got these youtube videos on opening the ADATA HD710M. As you can see the HDD has a SATA connector.

@dalchina the problem is my HDD cannot be detected on the pc so I cannot use any recovery tools, I don't mind the pictures I was transferring, I'm more worried with my files on the HDD. But thank you for suggesting me that tool, if I get my external to working I will use that to recover.

@Jumaji Thank you for your suggestion, I also saw the videos you sent, is that a 2.5 sata on 710 right? I think its not soldered as seen on the video so maybe I will try to buy a new bridge? is that what you call right?
