Windows Ten Laptop Scanning and Repairing Drive Frozen?

Dell xps 15 9550. I had this laptop for many years. Windows ten pro. I turned on my laptop and it said it was scanning and fixing my c drive. Now it went to one hundred percent complete and has been like this for quite a while now.


The thing was few weeks ago, i had the battery swelling on my keyboard and i was told this could cause damage to my laptop. I was going to fix this issue soon as go to repair shop and have them remove the battery so i could use it plugged. But today, when i turned on laptop... i see this message. Now i also been having a ton of windows updates recently.


Now what do i do? I think this has to do with the battery swelling not being taken of for a few weeks causing this? I can't even get to my main screen. Is my hard drive corrupted? What about my laptop? What do i do? Please someone help me.

I'm in a very tough situation right now. I am planning to head back to the US very soon and was originally going to get new parts for it. But I am still here outside the US for a few days. I need to fix this issue now because i have to do some things on my computer before I go back. Do you have any advice on what i could do now? Do i go to repair shop and have them remove my battery? Do i just restart my laptop right now? No matter what... i know i need to make sure i remove the swollen battery before i head back.

Like is it as simple as restarting my laptop and this possibly might get me back to my computer? Because If i can get to my main screen, i will immediately finish a few things on my laptop, then go to repair shop and have them remove the swollen battery. Then if thing work out, I will use the laptop without a battery until I get back to the US.


Because if I cannot get this issue fixed soon, I have to go back immediately to the US.


Anyone can tell me what i can do here? Do i just go to repair shop and have them look at this? I do know i want them to take out the swollen battery as well... but what about my hard drive and it not starting up?

Choose from these:

1: Replace: do nothing to the current laptop. Buy a new machine ASAP.

2: Repair: turn the current laptop over to a repair shop and let them do whatever is necessary to fix it, hopefully after getting an estimate.

Compare their estimate to $1700 for the new laptop and decide whether to repair or replace.

I don't think you personally should do anything based on your prior posts.

Maybe you will find out what would actually happen if you had no PC at all for a few days or weeks.

I don't mind buying a new laptop. My issue is right now I'm outside the US and if i buy it, I will order it from dell and then it will ship to the US and it won't get there for a while and I'm still outside the US. But my main issue is i need access to my laptop right now because i have information there and stuff that i need to finish before I leave here and head back to the US.


Yes regardless of what, I have to go to a repair shop here before I leave because I want them to remove my swollen battery. Thus had i not had this happen with the scanning and repairing drive screen, I was going to go to repair shop soon and have them remove the battery. I want to know... is there anything I can do now... where it could possibly get me my computer screen so i could finish some quick work on it... before i turn it off and then go to repair shop and have them remove the swollen battery... which is most likely the cause of this? Though i did a windows update last night but it doesn't seem to complete before it turned off.


What the repair shop charges here is very little so i am not concerned about that. I want to know... is there a way i can get to my main screen right now whether its pressing some buttons? I am checking google and some seem to say press control and disk check and things like that?

I had this issue happen years ago... when both my laptops... my main one and a spare one broke around the same time. Yes you heard that right... around the same time. My main one broke, then i tried to use spare one and it suddenly stopped working. Bought it to repair shop and they said it was both broken and they can't fix it. Both didn't even turn on. I had to fly back to the US to get a new laptop. So I been in this situation before.


So I want to know is there a way to get out of this scanning and repairing drive screen? Do i wait a few hours to see if it might change? Do i need to remove all usb drives from it to help it? Thus my wireless mouse usb or like the four port usb hub that is currently attached to it?

There's all kinds of things you COULD do.

But there's nothing I think you SHOULD do other than take it to a shop or buy a new machine.

I can take it to a repair shop no issue. The problem is there is a language barrier but i can use google translate without an issue. But the main issue is i don't think they will fix it right on the spot... and will hold it on for a day or two. That is what they did last time when I had this issue. The thing is I need to finish some work on laptop really quickly... so I want to be able to do this first.


If they going to hold my laptop for a day or two, then I will have to go back to the US asap. I need to finish some work on it right now.


But not only that... I want to know... what things I can possibly do to fix it right now? Do i restart it...and if so... what should show up on my screen? Is it like earlier when its same message and i believe it ask me to stop checking drive errors... press any keys? I believe i saw that earlier before it went to scanning itself? Im not sure if it did or not but when i googled, i saw this mentioned but i dont recall if i had this message when i first started it up. I just saw it said checking hard drive corrupted or something like that.

I googled this and youtube it and people say they did so and so etc. So restarting my laptop during this process couldn't hurt right? Or how long should i wait while on this screen... its been like this for 50 minutes already.


I mean almost no one will immediately bring their laptop to a shop if they see a message like this and possibly try a few fixes that could possibly work. So i want to try a few fixes. I don't think there is any harm in this? Because i had issues not related to this where it turned on before but doesn't do anything or my wired keyboard didn't work... but all it took was a restart and it fixed the issue. So could you please tell me what i can possibly do to fix this issue now?


Because if i get to my main screen, i will immediately finish some work i need to do... then turn off my laptop and go immediately to repair shop and have them take out my swollen battery. Then use my laptop as is while im still outside the US but will order one on dell and have it shipped to the US so i will use a new laptop once i get back to the US.

sonic, i don't understand. You mention to buy a new laptop. My laptop didn't even have issues before this. I was just deciding on either replacing my parts by upgrading it or buying a new laptop. My laptop worked perfectly fine before this... just few weeks ago i saw the battery was swollen but it didn't seem to affect my computer. So i'm confused why you say this?


It was not like my laptop had tons of issues before this.


I just want some advice from fellow members here on what i could possibly do now to try to fix this message on my screen. Again, I will immediately go to the repair shop here to have them remove my swollen battery after this. But i need access to my laptop because i have important work i need to finish on this laptop. That is my main issue here. If i didn't have some important things to finish here, I would take it to a repair shop... but im sure there is a way that can possibly fix it... like restarting it and pressing a certain button etc?

Sonic, I will be going to the repair shop right now... i spoke to them and they told me they can remove my swollen battery and I also told them the issue I have with my screen but I will have to show them it.


So I just power off my laptop then right now then? Then bring laptop to it?


So first thing I do when i bring laptop there is immediately have them take out my swollen battery, and then turn it on right? So if i have the same screen issues, have them fix it? Thus don't have them just turn on the laptop as is right?

Anyone else... so when i go to repair shop... immediately have them take out the swollen battery first right? Then when they turn it on... see what the problem is and how it goes from there? I am leaving soon and don't want to make a mistake like asking them to do what etc when i get there.

Anyone can please give me advice on what to do right now with my screen like this? Im going to head to the repair shop in few minutes but what i do with the dell screen scanning and repairing drive with one hundred percent complete? Do i just power it off and then bring it to repair shop and first thing is have them remove the swollen battery... then connect it to an outlet with my ac charger and then turn it on to see if it has this issue right?


I don't want to make a mistake in any step here. I was actually thinking of bring my laptop to them while its still turned on... that is a very bad idea right?


Im about to head back but I need to power it off off right now right? Im freaking out right now as I don't want to make a mistake here.
