Charging a damaged battery is really bad. I think that's clear. You should not be using it.

Do not take it back with you.

Thank you for the reply. So that means anyone that owns an xps and has this happen to them with the battery, which i read happens a lot on dell forums and reddit... what do they do especially if they cannot get a new battery soon? Almost all of them use it on ac plugged in without a battery then right?

I can't remove the swollen battery myself because I don't have the tools to do it. I have to go to a repair shop and have them do it. I will most likely head there tomorrow morning.

Well I can access my laptop right now... but I don't know if I would tomorrow morning when I turn it on. Thing is im going to try to finish my online work first...then when i bring my laptop there for them to remove the swollen battery.. then even if my laptop doesn't turn on... it isn't that big of a deal. But i certainly don't want that.

My main concern on this is years ago when i went to a laptop repair place in the us to have them put in the new xps 15 9550 battery and take out the old one... the guy who help me do this... he is very smart as he helped me with lot of these things previously... the laptop for some reason wouldn't turn on... if it did it was like stuck. He took my same 2.5 inch samsung ssd and put it in his computer to test if hard drive worked or not and it did... put it back in my laptop and it didn't work. After a while, it suddenly turned on. So my concern now is if i bring my laptop to the repair shop here and they take out the swollen battery, there is still a good chance it won't turn on even when using ac plugged in right? That is a concern of mine because i still want to use this laptop for a week or two before i leave and head back to the US. But of course if i continue to use it as is... it can be worst.

When i bring it to the repair shop, could they tell if everything inside is fine by looking at the motherboard and everything? What I do know was years ago when i went to same repair shop with 2 of my laptops, they basically told me both laptops were done... which meant motherboard was broken etc. They could test my motherboard right? Now how do i check the state of my hard drive now? You said since im using bitlocker, i could still check the health of my hard drive. I can do that right now right and if so... how?

About 90 questions asked in this thread.

Has there been any progress from post 1 to post 21?

The laptop started running again ...
So right now my computer seems to be fine.

Personally I wouldn't install any programs or make changes until you have a full backup.

How could you check your drive? Now considering portable programs- which you can run from a flash drive-

    Download Portable HD Tune 2.55

    Health and Error Scan tabs.

    Your priorities:
    - do not charge swollen battery
    - have it removed and disposed of safely
    - back up your data

sonic, well i decided to power if off and power it back on after waiting the 3.5 hours on that dell scanning screen.

Other ppl seem to all suggest the battery swollen has almost nothing to do with this message i saw.

daschina, im sure there is a way in windows 10 to check the health of the hard drive that is bitlocker enabled without a 3rd party program? I remembered doing this a while back but i dont recall how i did it.

Dalchina, I will be heading to the repair shop to have the battery removed. But there is a way to check the health of your ssd using windows 10... i know there is but im not sure how to do it b/c i done it before. I dont want to download a 3rd party software to check my hard drive health if there is already a program in windows 10.

Well, I had no idea you aren't suppose to continue using it. Again, if i didn't even touch my touchpad or looked closely, i probably still wouldn't know it was raised up because you can barely notice it the way im looking at it.

Hey. I will be going to repair shop tomorrow to have the swollen battery taken out. I didn't do it the last week or so because I wanted to do some things on my laptop. And yes i know ppl said im taking a risk not taking the battery out sooner. But i thought because it was like that for almost a month, another week, isn't going to make a difference. And someone else told me this error message i saw is definitely not related to the swollen battery.

There will be no issue having them take out the swollen battery if my hard drive is bitlocker enabled right? Like when they turn on my laptop when plugged in ac charger there, it will still ask me for my bitlocker pin? I will report back on this tomorrow once i get the swollen battery out. Will check the thread tomorrow morning, then head to repair shop.

    Thanks.
