Clean Install mouse / trackpad issue

I recently decided to wipe my Laptop and do a clean install as my son had been uisng it for ages and it was very laggy and cluttered.

It was on build 1903 (18362.959)

I tried a clean install of latest build but had loads of issues with mouse and trackpad, so tried a clean install of 1903 using rufus.

Wiped c:, deleted partition and recreated it before install.

No issues with install, mouse and trackpad working perfectly during the installation process but once it actually completes both mouse and trackpad will freeze after about 2s, then work again, then freeze etc.

I've updated the driver via device manager, still no luck.

Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad - It's obvs internal but listed as plugged into PS/2 mouse port.
    Driver 19.5.10.75

    Rolled back to 19.3.31.31

    Still no luck.

I've literally not done anything else since the install, other than repeat the whole process to get the same results.

    Any ideas?

    Welcome to TenForums!

Have you tried installing the actual Synaptics driver that HP posts for your laptop (I'm assuming the laptop in your profile is the system that we are talking about)?

Here is the link for that driver: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp730...00/sp73280.exe

It's rather old, but worth a shot.

Also, I noticed that you mention that both the trackpad and mouse are problematic. Using the two devices will play together fine, but as a test, you might try temporarily using just the trackpad alone without a mouse plugged in. Does it work any better? If not, plug the mouse back in and make sure it is working, then temporarily disable the touchpad in device manager to see if the mouse works better with the trackpad disabled and see if it is the trackpad that is causing problems.

Edit: You might also want to make sure you have the latest BIOS updates.

    Thank you for your time.

I had tried that driver but no luck.

I noticed in device manager a device with no drivers. After searching the hardware ID's I discovered it was the AMD radeon graphics.

Downloaded the detect app which then installed latest drivers.

While the graphics drivers were installing the mouse and trackpad worked flawlessly, as soon as the drivers installed though they went back to freezing every second or so.

Any idea why that could be?

I also came across this thread

But the files they suggested downloading say I need catalyst install manager. i cant seem to find anyway of installing that though.

Out of interest, which APP are you referring to?
