CPU won't go into sleep mode after idling time since update 2004

    Hi,

Desktop PC wit AMD FX CPU, Windows 10 Pro, 64 bit. Recently upgraded to OS version 2004 -- I did not force it.

Since the upgrade, the monitor will turn off when idling time reached threshold. But CPU will not go into sleep mode automatically (keyboard & mouse both show LED light). Password is required on wake-up so I'm sure it never went into sleep.

Using power option to set it to sleep works. However, there are timers wake it up periodically. Once awake, it won't go into sleep automatically.

I have searched and found a few threads. Things I have tried.

    SFC and DISM - passed
    Upgraded video driver from nVidia
    Uninstalled Symantec Endpoint version
    Check for updates - none

    The problem remains.

Is there any other way to troubleshoot to identify the problem? Otherwise I'd have to go back to previous version.

    Thanks

I have an FX8350 and Windows 10 2004 that wasn't going to sleep. I don't think what CPU it has is the problem.

I searched for what can prevent a computer from sleeping. One thing that caught my attention was a Windows update error could prevent a computer from sleeping. I checked and did find an Windows update error. Retrying the update was successful. After the sleep timeout the computer did go to sleep like it should. I will be watching this to make sure the problem is fixed.

I have another desktop that also had the sleep problem after updating to 2004. It had the same Windows update error. I am also watching it to see if it is going to sleep like it should.

BTW, I normally don't want my desktops to go the sleep when I am using my laptop. I want to access files on them over the network all the time. What I do on my desktops is run a program called Insomnia. It prevents a computer from going to sleep. When I no longer want the desktops to stay awake I exit Insomnia on each one. They will then normally go to sleep by themselves after the timeout period.

Do you mean running Settings -> Update and see if there is any error there? I don't see any error

    Thanks

I went into Settings > Update and found that last update resulted in an error. It said to try the update again. Doing that resulted in a successful update. After I did that sleep worked again.

Since there are a lot of causes for sleep problems I was just lucky to find the one that worked for me.
