    Drive letter problem

I have a problem with a drive letter. it is assigned but not recognized by the Windows explorer. It happens only for one letter (M in my case). When I assign a different letter to the same drive, the explorer has no problem with recognizing it. If I assign this letter to another drive, it becomes invisible. The letter M is however recognized by the Disk Management.
Why would one particular letter be oddly hidden by the explorer?

    Thanks.

It could be reserving M for usb...plug one in and see...also mount an .iso and see what letter it uses...

    John,

This can happen if you have previously assigned that letter to a mapped network drive.

There has been at least one thread here about that in the past but there might be more. This is the one I made a note of

Look for an M:\ entry in the Registry at
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\MountedDevices

You can clear unused reserved drive letters by running:

    diskpart
    automount scrub

I think you can see this type of issue better in disk management
