LOL. Thank you for the advice and help.

If it all goes wrong and the MB is cooked, that'll be the universe telling me it's time to upgrade a 12+ year old system, that has happened a few times over the decades :)

I think you will be fine.
There is no difference between a 6-pin and an 8-pin connector other than that Sensor.
I think the worst that can happen is nothing (no video).

I build my own cables for PSU to GPU, I know from the cards i use that if the cable is wrong plugged into the GPU you would see 2 red led glow near the connectors & if correct see blue or some other colour there, they are normally polarity protected the vrm's on a GPU anyway.

The GPU connector pin-out has been the same for some time now but at the power supply can be different & now the Hybrid modular have come along they changed the connectors to 6-pin for the sata power / molex connectors but the GPU stayed as an 8-pin connector.

You best bet is to power the PSU disconnected from the PC motherboard then multimeter the output connections to GPU as the 3 X +12v sit at the back of the connector were the clip which holds the connector in the socket is at the front.

On my photo Blue is 12v & you have 5 X 0v cables some cables daisy chain direct from the 2 ov on that connector but I sent them back to the PSU on my cable.
