    Trouble scanning with Epson WF-3520

I have been having trouble scanning with my Epson WF-3520. I haven't scanned any documents for a few months so I don't know when it started. When I try to scan with the Epson Scan program I get a Can not Communicate with the Scanner error. I have no problem printing. If I go to Devices and Printers in Device Manager I can scan but the only options are BMP, JPG, PNG and TIF. PDF is not a option. If I keep trying or unplug and plug the printer back in it will work for awhile. The drivers and software are all up to date. The printer is connected through the wireless connection on my Netgear router. I first thought it was because my desktop is running the DEV Channel of Windows 10. I tried with my laptop that is running 2004 and I still have the same problem. Anyone know of a fix for this problem?

It could be the Epson software. If I do a scan in Devices and Printers first the scanner will work in the Epson Scan program. My guess is that the Epson Scan is having trouble waking the scanner.

I downloaded the VueScan Scanner software to try. It does have a watermark if not purchased. I will test it out for awhile and see if I still have the problem before I decide to buy it or not.

As a diagnostic I'd try the Windows Fax and Scan in Start, W section, Windows Accessories.

I just tried Windows Fax and Scan. It's the same scan program when I use Devices and Printers to do a scan. When I first installed VueScan it worked. I then tried to do a scan with Epson Scan and got the error. I then tried VueScan again and it couldn't find the scanner. For now I guess I'll have to use the MS scan program first to wake up the scanner so I can scan in PDF.

I have had this printer for a long time. I wonder if my WF-3520 is getting read to retire on me.

I have an old Epson scanner and Epson Scan keeps playing up. I just uninstall Epson Scan and reinstall it - I use Revo Pro for complete removal. The Windows Scan app is reliable but lacks features:
