PC screen turns on but does nothing else.

Windows 10 home (with latest updates)

    On our other PC.
I believe that something went amiss during the virus scan over night.
This morning the PC was off when we normally do not shut it down.
After I pushed the start button, the screen came on but nothing else worked.
I changed the batteries in the mouse, but that did not make a difference.
What should be my next step to try to activate this PC.
BTW, I did not hear the fan come on.

Hi, do you see anything at all on the screen, any sign of a logo or POST?
Do you hear any sounds- beeps- fans?

    Is it a desktop?

Do you have disk images (as is so often recommended here) - any other backup? Is there important data on it you have not backed up?

Funny I had a laptop do this yesterday.

Unplug from wall, remove battery, push power button 10 seconds. Assemble and try.

This resolve the one I was working on, also an HP.

If desktop unplugged, hold power button 10 seconds, plug in and try.

Thank you very much, that did work.
However, I did not hear the fan come on, could that have been the problem?

Very strange two laptops same issue. I wonder what was delivered.

You should hear your fan but who knows, not sure what logic HP uses. If it did turn on and fan IS dead it would soon shut off. A laptop is not very good at staying in the thermal boundaries without a fan.

If you stress your device a little does fan start?

    I would continue to monitor.

It looks warm, 47C, but not sure what it was say a day ago. Graphic is using green to display. Your core 3 is running at twice the speed of other cores and is just 1C higher.

Could you look through your Windows updates, all categories, and see if anything was delivered in say the last two days.

You could always force the fan by stressing system.

Does reading notes and looking at various other things stress the fan enough?

    No.

If you want to stress it run this.

Watch temps as this will push things to extreme.

Prime95 - Stress Test Your CPU

If it hits 65C and no fan then something is wrong in my opinion.

Before I do this test, I just checked temperature again after two hours and it is at 41% average on the PC in question.
I checked the other PC I use and the average temperature is also at 40% average, both PC's are Envy 27" All In One desk PC's.
Should I still run the stress test?

As I could not add again to your reputation, I thank you very much for the replies.
