    Bluetooth failure with YourPhone

I think I have got to the very last stage in getting YourPhone to work with my Android MINOTE 7 phone. It is Bluetooth failing to make the final connection. I think the settings on both devices are as they need to be. I keep trying, but I get a variety of negative responses. Both devices recognise each other. Whenever I boot the PC there is a popup on the phone saying Bluetooth connection request, click to connect. But on the PC YourPhone just keeps telling me to resend the notification. I have several Bluetooth apps on the phone. Some say they cannot find the PC, while others list it as being paired. I have occasionally got as far as being given a code to enter on the other device, but sometimes there is nowhere to enter it, or if there is the code is not accepted.

I know BT's reputation for not being reliable and difficult to set up, despite the years it has been in use, but this is the worst experience with it I have had. It did work for about a week some months ago. I use a couple of other similar apps (eg MightyText) mainly for text messaging, which rather shows up MS's inability to get their own app working reliably.

No issues are shown with the devices displayed, including my MiNote 7 Phone (which has Android 9), so maybe that shows how useless the page is! It also does not show a BT Keyboard I just tried, to test BT on the PC which PC did not detect it. I suspect the BT on my PC will not detect any new BT devices, though it lists ones that have been connected previously. I am fairly certain the problem is with the PC BT service.

I checked Services and found that while BT User Service is running, BT User Support Service is stopped, and clicking it had no effect. I dug deeper and was able to set it to Automatic, but then in Services it showed as Manual (Triggerd Start) not Automatic. There was also a notification "parameters incorrect". I don't know what that signifies, but anyway the problem is not yet solved. I continue to get different results each time I resend the notification, but a key point is that I have never had the notification appearing on the phone as it is supposed to do. sometimes on the PC it shows a code and asks if it is the same on the phone. So far I have not seen this code on the phone so I have tried both answering 'yes' and answering 'no' --- with the same 'incorrect' response. I hope all this means something to somebody! I feel I am at the edge of success but not quite there.

Another thing I discovered after the attempt to make changes in Setting is that Bluetooth appeared, twice, in Task Manager. One of the entries has a notice saying it is turned off to improve performance, and it registers 0 RAM usage. The other entry has it showing some RAM is in use. I will try to see if this takes me anywhere.

Apologies, I do not know how the last post came to be duplicated.

Re Bluetooth --- I have tried reversing the procedure, ie. I am starting with the phone, scanning for devices, and if found then trying to pair. The phone finds the PC, correctly named, and tries to pair. Pairing fails, with a notice saying it is 'because of an incorrect PIN or KEY'. But it has not asked me for, nor has it displayed a PIN or KEY!

For security reasons, too many failed attempts (more than 3) to match the codes on your PC and phone will automatically prevent you from being able to start linking your devices from your phone. To link your devices, close and reopen the Your Phone app on your PC and begin the setup process from there instead. You'll be prompted to accept permissions instead of matching codes to link your devices.

When get as far Pairing does it show a page where it asks do the numbers match on your desktop and mobile
I wonder also if it's the phone keyboard wanting a pin or key
the default is either 0000 or 1234

A little bit further forward. The phone can find the PC and it has paired from the phone. But it does not connect. The PC cannot or rather YourPhone app can neither find or pair. At present the 'are the key numbers the same' has stopped appearing, also when sending the notification from PC it no longer generates the notification of BT seeking permission -- but could this be due to fact that pairing from the phone has now been established? I don't think the phone keyboard is asking for a pin. I will continue tomorrow.

Not much progress today, though I am told there is 'just one more thing to do to complete the connection'. I have followed instruction to check my password / pin in Shared experiences, and to sign out / back in Your Phone Companion on the phone. On the PC it keeps saying I am signed in to my phone and to 'resend the notification'.

An article I have just read says I need to have Miracast installed. Is this true? I doubt it, because (a) Miracast and Bluetooth are two unrelated systems are they not? (b) I had Bluetooth and YourPhone working a few months ago, without Miracast. If it is If it is needed I do have a dongle awaiting connection.

A few more bits of info. In Action Centre reports BT as "not connected" and Connect reports "wireless is turned off", which at least confirms it is the BT service on the PC which is failing.

I am still not able to use YourPhone, but I now know the problem is a complete failure of BT on the PC to make any Bluetooth connections at all. I have tried a number of devices, which either are not detected or if they are nothing can be done with them. As this is a wider BT problem I will start another thread concentrating on that.

If you're getting the "We can't connect to your phone" message,
It's possible the "Share experiences" feature is disabled.
    Try the following:

    Go Settings.
    Click on System.
    Click on Shared experiences.
Turn on the Share across devices toggle switch.
And see if it helps with the connection..

I did check the nearby sharing just in case but it was on OK. I am pursuing the total failure of all BT on my PC in another thread, so far without success.
