Thanks for that. I thought - Start - Update and Security - Recovery - Reset this PC left all files AND progs.
This leaves all files, I assumed it left programs too. I see on closer inspection that it removes apps and settings. I will ensure all those are backed up/recorded before I bite the bullet.
I have about dozen programs and have disks/download links for them all.
That feels like a good start (for me!)
