Explorer thinks my printer is a disk drive.

About 3-4 days ago, Drive D: (Disk 3) showed up on Explorer. Tried to open it up and it said no media, please insert a disk?? Does not show on mini partition tool (thinks its a cd?). Disk manager shows as removable no media. Removed drive letter D: assigned to it and the properties show it as my default printer.? Not sure how to correct this, any help appreciated.

Yes, it is because of the memory card slot.

I have this condition with my Epson printer. It also constantly activates the Safely Remove USB icon in the taskbar.
The problem lies with the printer's driver. I have not been able to find a way to stop this annoying behavior.
I changed the drive letter for the printer to W. That way it does not interfere with day to day disk activities and I can ignore it.

OK. Tx. My driver version is ver. 1.0 . No drivers specifically for my model, just a "family" series. It does "occupy" Disk 3 only when the printer is on.

What I've noticed is a number of printers have a USB port and/or an SDHC card slot. The USB port acts as if it a Hub attached to the computer. Some printers also have a Scan feature that can use a USB Thumb drive or the SDHC slot for saving scanned documents without needing the computer or can print directly from either. My HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 has both but don't work with the computer as I use an Ethernet attachment to the Router instead of the USB connection.
