The Windows 10 is pirated / cracked.

    The computer has KMS software:
    Windows(R) Operating System, VOLUME_KMSCLIENT channel

Please install a licensed copy of Windows.

That's news to me. This PC's system was originally Win 10 Home x64. I upgraded to Win 10 Pro with purchase from Microsoft Store. Microsoft Tech Support upgraded from Home to Pro by changing the license key. I'm not seeing anything that indicates I have a bootleg copy of Win 10 and bogus activation.

With the exception of Product Key Cards (PKC’s) distributed with COA’s, Microsoft does not distribute products keys as standalone products. If you see a listing on an auction site, online classified ad, or other online page advertising product keys for sale, it’s a good indication that the keys are likely stolen or counterfeit. If you were to purchase and use a stolen or counterfeit product key to activate Windows installed on your PC, the key may not work for activation, may already be in use on another PC, or it might be blocked from use later by Microsoft when the key is reported stolen. The best way to get everything you expect up front is to buy genuine Microsoft software preinstalled on a new PC or genuine Microsoft software from an authorized reseller.

That's what I did. I would think that the Microsoft Store is an authorized reseller of the Win 10 Pro upgrade. Win 10 Home was preinstalled on this laptop by HP. This laptop was purchased new in November.

    Not necessarily...

The genuine.txt file shows a valid license for Windows 10 2004 Pro.

    Key items -

    LocalGenuineState : SL_GEN_STATE_IS_GENUINE
    OSVersion : 10.0.19041.2.00010100.0.0.048
    ProductName : Windows 10 Pro
    ProcessorArchitecture : x64
    EditionId : Professional

    I do see this -

    ActiveProductKeyChannel : Volume:GVLK

which is a Generic Volume License Key.

Microsoft says this about GVLKs -

Installation media from Microsoft for Enterprise editions of the Windows operating system may already contain the GVLK. One GVLK is available for each type of installation. The GLVK will not activate the software against Microsoft activation servers, but rather against a KMS or Active Directory-based activation object. In other words, the GVLK does not work unless a valid KMS host key can be found. GVLKs are the only product keys that do not need to be kept confidential.

I don't see how it could have activated and be genuine wihout a KMS or AD activation object.

    OP,

Download and run ShowKeyPlus and see what it says about your Product Key for 2004 -

    Releases . Superfly-Inc/ShowKeyPlus . GitHub

You cannot rely on the top of that page and must look for entries that indicate piracy / crack.

Contact Microsoft or the computer vendor.

The vendor should sell OEM version not KMS.

Selling computers with KMS enables the vendor to make an extra profit to unsuspecting customers.

    See my updated post above.

    The OP stated -

"No, I didn't force the update. It was presented by Windows Update on 27 May 2020".

I am interested in what ShowKeyPlus comes back with.

There could be an error in V2, the previous version was GVLK, the Windows Update to 2004 was pushed out with a GVLK.

I think we need more info before calling it bogus.

The logs displayed software installed on the computer which is being used to bypass the activation of the license.

This software is never sold by Microsoft.

The computer does not have Enterprise.

We see pirated / cracked Enterprise too.

    I get that.

    The OP said -

"I've got a relatively new HP laptop"

Wherever he purchased it, he might not have known there was a GVLK on the system.

I've seen that happen as well.

If we can prove that, he might be able to get his money back.

ShowKeyPlus should be able to confirm what V2 said.

If the moderators want to stop the thread, their call.

If he's actually a hacker, he likely won't post again anyway.
