    Problem with attaching mobile phone

I have just bought a new Google Pixel 4XL and it will not connect to my computer to transfer data such as photos etc via a USB 2 to a USB 3 cable.

Also it will not charge from my universal charger that I used to charge my pixel 2 from .

    Any ideas please?

Thanks for your reply The Pool Man I have tried that cos that is the way I used to hook up my old pixel 2 but I get no pop up which says anything about anything being added to the computer. Perhaps it is the cable I shall have to get a new cable.

If you've tried another PC and it doesn't work, yeah I guess.

Did you try the new cable in the box yet --

Yes mate I am getting new cable to see if that works still very strange though because the Pixel 2 hooks up ok and will charge e device as well. So I guess I am going to have to wait for the new cable and also take it into the providers store if it doesn't work.

My phone is a OnePlus 7T (Android 10). If I connect it to the PC, it is detected but no files are visible. To connect to it, I had to use the Windows 10 "Your Phone" app. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4531293

I vaguely recall that with an old Samsung Galaxy Core (I forget the Android version, but it was far from current), I could just connect and use it much like an external storage drive. The functionality of the Your Phone app seemed inferior for file transfer.

I suspect that there's nothing wrong with your Pixel 4XL. Things have been improved.

Thanks for your reply bobkn I suspect you are right and it needs a technician to show me the correct settings . I did try that link but still no hook up.

I tried even with a blue tooth dongle but am guessing it is way past the Pixels setup capabilities.

Found that the cable I was using was at fault so now the phone is charging and showing up as empty but it probably needs a bit of tweaking to see any data on it as of yet I have no pics.

Many thanks to all those who had some input on this thread of mine
