Run the diags first. Then try the W10 internal install.

Sure. However, the OP can't be doing other things when @jumanji is helping him troubleshoot.
I mean this in a good way! There needs to be a logical progression otherwise it's all chaos.

Okay - so an update ...

I shut the PC down and unplugged the 5TB X300 USB disk then connected it as a second internal disk, booting off the 240GB Win 10 SSD.

I then ran Partition Manager and got this:



Since I could now see the whole drive, I then told Partition Manager to convert the disk to the GPT scheme so that I could use the whole disk.

Then using Partition Manager, extended the 561GB into the unallocated space:



Now, looking at 'File Explorer' (Win 10 remember) the disk shows up as the full 5TB:



... and it also shows up in Disk Management as a 5TB data disk:



NOTE: the 14.45GB 'Toshiba' disk (Disk E: / Disk 2) is a USB pen drive with lots of utilities and installation files on it.

So, it now appears to be fixed!

All I need to do now is re-direct 'My Documents', 'My Pictures', 'My Music', etc to point to the 5TB hard disk instead of the 240GB SSD System Disk.

Don't know why Win 10 has suddenly decided it can 'see' the 5TB disk properly.

Hopefully, this is the end of this sorry tale.

Sorry if my post wasn't clear.

When I said "5TB X300 USB disk" this was the 5TB disk that was causing the problems but I'd attached it to the PC as an external USB drive.

Following your suggestion (post #17) I disconnected it as an external USB drive and then re-conneced it as an internal SATA drive, then ran Partition Manager with the results as posted in post #64.

To all those who have offered advice/support/help - a big thank you. I have mailed several of you to thank you personally and also added to your reputations using the 'Thank' button.

If I have missed anyone out, this is unintentional and not intended as a 'slight' in any way. If you have been missed, I apologize.

My suggestion is to move \Users from the SSD (C:) to the HDD (D:).
Move Users Folder Location in Windows 10
As you have already installed Win 10, you enter audit mode and run Sysprep. See attached files

Thanks for that.

Never used Sysprep nor Audit Mode before. Is everything obvious (I guess not being Microsoft!) and easy to use?

Have downloaded your files and will have a gander later.

My OH is feeling abandoned given the amount of time I've spent camped on the PC trying to sort out this problem over the last three or four days. She's just said (rather pointedly looking at the sunshine outside) "Well I'm off to do a spot of gardening!" so I guess that means that I've just volunteered too!
