Currently transferring the 'My Documents' folder from the 2TB (old Win 7 System & Data Disk) onto my laptop's "spare" 960GB whilst I sanitize the 5TB disk (in another thread) so that it can be transferred to the 5TB disk in due course.

Frankly if a hdd showed this little space and on two pc's it would of been returned.

Looks like it was a corrupted File Table (Partition Table).
EaseUS corrected it.

ArthurDent, All hardware are subject to fail, specially HDDs. If you have data you can't loose, you must have a backup.

On my desktop I have a HDD that is dedicated only for backup. It has a OS and it remains detached (power cable) from the MB and and once a week I open the case, attach the power cable, boot from it, and make a clone of my profile (D:\Users\Luiz). It also has some disk images of the OS drive (no data). The backup data HDD has to be at least the size of the working disk.
My suggestion is that you buy another X300 HDD for backup only.

Plan is as follows:

Boot device & System Disk - Win 10 Pro on 240GB SSD (already done)
Plan to install Linux Mint 19.3 Mate and dual boot with Win 10.

Storage Disk - the 5TB Toshiba X300 that has been the subject of this thread.
Following advice, this disk will be encrypted.

Backup Data Disk - a "spare 1TB" laptop hard drive (Seagate Barracuda) - currently a clone of a Win 7 laptop installation.

Backup 2 - a 256GB SD card which will permanantly 'sit' in the desktop's SD Card slot and have regular (say 2x per day) backups of some "important" folders & files. This is as per this link: post #23 onwards "New Laptop - empty m.2 socket - doesn'r recognise SSD"

That way, important "stuff" is saved in at least 3 different physical locations.

I like the idea of that hot-swap caddy/internal SATA backplane. If only I can shoehorn it into my Mini ATX tower!
