ThinkPad T440 Integrated WebCam not working

    Hello!

I am a proud owner of an older ThinkPad T440 unit.

The laptop itself works great and is just what I need for my purposes.

That said, I do have a problem with it that I was hoping some of you guys could help me solve, since most internet tips failed and I was thinking someone also had the same issue on this model and was able to solve it.

Namely - the integrated camera does not work on Windows 10.

I dual boot Windows 10 and Pop OS! and on my Linux Distro, the camera works great out of the box.

The camera also works on Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Manjaro and Deepin OS (those are the ones I tested on this laptop, but I assume that it simply works well on all Linux distros).

As for Windows 10, I tried installing Lenovo Vantage and checking the camera options there, but nothing happens when I turn Privacy on or off.

    I also tried:

    • reinstalling the drivers,
    • replacing them with the default Windows generic drivers,
    • updating the Lenovo Settings Dependency Package software,
    • uninstalling the Lenovo Settings Dependency Package software,
    • using all F keys with the function key on the keyboard (F1, F2 etc.),
    • I have no lens covers or buttons to enable/disable the webcam
    • reinstalling Windows completely (clean install, without dual boot).

The specs of my laptop are as follows:

    • Intel Core i5-4300u @ 1.90GHz
    • Intel HD Graphics 4400 (HSW GT2)
    • 8GB DDRIII Memory
    • ASUS SSD 240GB
    • Windows version: 1909

Let me know if I can provide any further information!

    Thank you so much!

    You could try this:

    1. Uninstall the camera from Device manager (uninstall device).
    2. Reinstall the camera from Device manager: Action > Search for hardware changes...
    3. Run Vantage or System Update, install the driver and/or firmware for the camera if they appear as available.

    Hi Anibor!

Thanks for the tip, but I already tried this.

A relative has that model and his cam works fine with the driver provided by lenovo's support page , if that doesn't work for you try to acquire the device id for the camera from device manager to search for proper driver for it as maybe that camera is from an updated set of hardware that was released at a certain region .

You can later search by : "device id here" latest driver windows 10 , as simple as that , some driver sites use that method of display for their drivers lately .

If not then paste the device id here along with the vendor name so someone can help you find em .

    Thank you very much!

Following your advice, I was able to find a generic driver for my exact webcam model and it appears to be working now!

    Hello!

Unfortunately, the same issue happens again and this time reinstalling the driver does not work.

    These are my hardware IDs:
    USB\VID_04F2&PID_B39A&REV_2603&MI_00
    USB\VID_04F2&PID_B39A&MI_00

    Any help?

    Thanks!

For anyone who has the same issue as I have, I managed to solve it again by following these:

In Settings, Privacy, App Permissions, have you given the camera access to your computer? That's what it took so my wife could join a zoom meeting.

Don't know if it's relevant, but a new driver for the webcam on my T450s showed up on the Lenovo support pages in the last 48 hours. Might be worth checking if there's a new one for your T440?

Hi, on my t440s this is the driver:

Occasionally I run Lenovo System Update - includes BIOS updates very conveniently.

Ah, no - mine looks to be a completely different camera on the T450s.

There have been quite a few driver updates on Lenovo recently, also Intel, for my Thinkpad - perhaps in readiness for eventual 2004 compatibility??
