    Driver Problem

    Hello,

I have the following set up and I am having drivers issues:

    HP 1040 G3 Elitebook
    Windows 10 2004

When I check the Device Manager it tells me it doesn't like a couple of drivers:

    HP Radio Manager Device
    Detection Verification

Using the Device Manager I update the drivers by allowing the system to check online. It finds drivers and automatically installs them. I restart the system and all is great.

Then, when I completely power down and start up again, the Device Manager once again tells me these drivers need to be addressed.

It should be noted that despite Device Manager complaining about these drivers there seems to be no ill effects on the system during day to day use (or at least none that I am aware of, i.e. everything seems to work fine).

Why do the drivers seem to "stick" on a reboot, but when I do full power down and up the issues comes back? Does anyone have any suggestion for getting these drivers to work properly even after a full shut down?

Thanks for any input you can offer.

    Hello,

Thanks for the link. I followed the instructions and those drivers mentioned in my original post did not appear in the list generated by File Signature Verification. As a matter of fact it only listed one item:

    Any other thoughts?

    Thanks in advance.

    Two driver "sniffer" programs
    - SDI (Snappy Driver Installer)
    - SnailDriver
    (both freeware version)

Use judiciously. As with most driver programs, tend to get carried away and want to update every driver. ONLY SELECT THE DRIVERS YOU WANT. (No need to update all drivers, even if prompted. If it ain't broke, don't try and fix it)

    Use both, if necessary.

Thank you of your suggestion. However, Snapper Driver said there are no updated drivers available for the ones I need and I was unable to download Snail Driver.

As I mentioned in my original post, I am able to update/install the drivers via the Device Manager. When I do a "Restart" everything is fine. The problem I have is when I do a full shut. When I perform a full shut down and power up again, the Device Manager no longer wants to play nice with the drivers. BUT if I do a "Restart" (again) everything is once again fine and Device Manager is playing nice with the drivers.

The problem only persists when I do a full shut down and power back up. Performing a "Restart" remedies the problem but if I shut down the computer the problem comes back.

    Any thoughts?

Sometimes Windows doesn't quite get the drivers right ...

Download and install the driver programs from the HP website
Uninstall the Windows drivers (but don't reboot if asked)
    Install the HP drivers
    Shutdown, and restart

    or

    Uninstall the drivers
    Shudown, and Restart
(if Windows doesn't auto (re)install the drivers first go, run Windows update)

I've seen it happen only twice, once with Win7 and once with Win10, where in fact the Device Manager errors were a false positive, which might explain your experience of not being able to see anything untoward in the running of your computer.

In both cases, it was devices that were irrelevant (one was an inbuilt modem ... if anyone can remember what they were for , can't remember what the other was, inconsequential anyway). Me, I would have been driven to distraction the fact that they were there, but the owner/user couldn't have cared less!)

    Thank you for your suggestion.

I have downloaded what I believe to be the correct drivers directly from the HP site. I ran the .exe files and the computer behaved the same: All was fine with a restart but a full shut down and power up and the the drivers didn't want to play nice with Device Manager.

You can over ride the signed driver problem which this seems to be How to disable Driver Signature enforcement on Windows 10

This issue seems to have resolved itself. Apparently an HP driver update was installed during the latest system update. So far, so good. Thanks for everyone's input.

Never mind. I spoke too soon.

So now I think I've finally got it.

I had to update my audio driver and I did so via the Device Manager. Now all the drivers seem to be playing quite nicely with the Device Manager.

I wonder why updating the audio driver would have remedied the situation when the other (unhappy) drivers didn't seem to have anything to do with the audio. Very odd. Very confusing.

Thanks everyone, for you input and help.
