The sad part of this is that this update is going to be installed on millions of computers without any problems and if they later buy a printer that is incompatible to it, they are going to be in a heap of trouble. MS needs to put some exceptional effort into fixing this problem.

    Agreed, but will it happen?

    Hello @John88,

Out of interest, which method for uninstalling did you use?
    1. remove the printer drivers using Uninstall Tool, here: Downloads | MFC-6490CW | United Kingdom | Brother
    2. checked and removed the Brother PC-Fax v2.1 which was still there in ‘Devices and Printers’> ‘Print server properties’> ‘Drivers’ tab> and check to see if there are any entries for your Brother printer.
If there are, please select and remove them
    3. uninstall the Brother software from pc via control panel > apps
    4. pc off and disconnected usb-cable from printer
    5. uninstall Windows Update KB4560960
    6. pc off & on
    7. install Brother-printer software full driver & software package Downloads | MFC-6490CW | United Kingdom | Brother
    8. connect usb cable to printer and let printer software run all the way
    9. pc off & on
    10. done

With MS attitude, they are going to expect the printer manufacturers to provide updated drivers to fit their code, they are having a lot of conflicts with 2004 just for that reason.

Thanks for posting the detailed and precise procedure @John88.

This should hopefully help others resolve the issue regarding Brother printers caused by the WU KB4560960.

Download and run wushowhide.diagcab or your PC will download the driver again.

Click "Next" and it will search for updates and it will, or should, show KB460960.
Click the check box next to it and click "Hide updates" and wait for it to finish. Don't think you have to, but I reboot my computer.

    With "Hide Updates"
It says "There are no update available to hide".

    With "Show hidden updates"
It says "You're all set, there aren't any hidden updates to show"

That is because you have the update already installed (KB460960). You will have to restore the image that does not have the update to get this to work.

    EDIT: See post #55.

    Hello @John88,

This problem doesn't affect me as I have an HP printer!

I started by trying to resolve the initial OP's [ @JoeMcLutz ] question in post #1, and as you can see, this thread has evolved into something much bigger as far as finding that this affects many [ probably most ] Brother printers and is caused by WU KB4560960.

I think I'll wait for MS to put a fix soon.
