SSD Upgrade Question regarding HP 255 G7 Laptop

I am getting ready to upgrade my standard 128 GB SSD that is in my HP 255 G7 Laptop to a 500 GB SSD from Crucial.

Right now, it has a SAMSUNG MZNLN128HAHQ-000H1 128 GB SSD in it from the factory. From what I have seen online, these are M.2 Type SSD's.

Can anyone confirm for me that this computer does indeed take a M.2 Type SSD? I have found one at Crucial that is a 500 GB M.2 Type. But I need to know if it's alright to order that one. I am also upgrading the RAM to 8 GB.

I don't see any issue with not ordering it.

I'm a little confused. According to the spec: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product...c06194380#AbT5 I'd assume that the laptop can use either SATA or NVME M.2 drives.

The drive that you list is a SATA one.

The only M.2 drives that Crucial offers for the HP 255 G7 are SATA. Memory RAM & SSD Upgrades | hp - compaq | hp business notebooks | HP 255 G7 (AMD Ryzen) | Crucial.com

An NVME PCI-E X4 drive would be preferred for best performance. I'm a little worried that Crucial doesn't offer any NVME drives.

So I watched the video at 5.55, and it gave me the clarification that I could use a SATA M.2 drive. But I want to make sure that is correct by all of you. Just give me a yes or no and explain your reason as to why also.

This site shows the Samsung SSD listed above is an M2/2280, which is great news. In the comments after the video link posted above, it suggests the PC does or does not contain an M2 mount and if it does have the M2, it is capable of accepting an NVMe drive.

Some will suggest that the NVMe subjective performance isn't much faster than SATA but the specs are clear.
The interface for sata 3 is 600Mbps while an NVMe is about 5 times that speed.

Crucial.com has a system scanner on their website. The scanner scanned my hardware and it displayed a list of compatible SSD’s. I will post the one I found in the comments that the scanner found compatible.

I have more confidence in a Crucial scanner than many others but not as much as my own Command Line inquiry. If you require assistance to perform your own checks, just ask. There are many members here that are very happy to help.

There are many manufacturers that make an M2 NVMe SSD.
