Will more RAM increase speed of downloads.

Windows 10 Home 64-bitComputer type: DesktopInstallation Date: 2020-05-28 3:12:09 PM
    -------------------
I did download the latest windows 10 updates on both of our PC's.
Both have 2.7 GHz, one has 16 GB and the other 12 GB.
It took more than 5 hours to get them downloaded and installed on the PC with 12 GB, unfortunately did not time the download on the other PC, but it was a lot faster.
Would the 4 GB more ram make that much of a difference?
If I do end up wanting to change the one 4 GB stick for an 8 GB, do I need to change also the 8 GB to make sure they are properly pared or just get the one stick.
A question about drivers. There are many driver updates available from HP, is it wise to install them or better to leave things as they are since there don't seem to be any problems.

Ram has no baring on it its down to interenet speed and your network card plus as millions are downlaoing it MS may be overloaded. 2.4 gig speed is slow by modern standards my pc clocked at 4 gigs installed in 75 mins

I doubt that going from 12GB of RAM to 16GB would affect downloads.

You are showing dual-channel RAM. However, that will only apply to the amount of RAM in the smaller DIMM. So, you're getting dual channel for 8GB (2 X 4), and single channel for the top 4GB. If you swapped in an 8GB stick to match the other, you'd have dual channel over the full 16GB.

(Dual channel allows data to be fetched in parallel, doubling the data rate, nominally.)

You may want to match the existing 8GB stick, if possible. Some utilities, like CPU-Z (CPU-Z | Softwares | CPUID) can show you exactly what RAM is present. (Click on the SPD tab.) It may not be strictly necessary, though.

    Thanks for your reply.
I did not update both PC's at the same time, just one after the other, the 12 GB first.
Thus I would think that the internet speed would not have changed that quick.
Even at the 2.7 GHz, should it not have downloaded faster?

I think it will be worth to try to exchange the 4 GB stick for an eight GB.

More RAM and increased CPU speed have very little effect.
The main factors are your Download Speed from your ISP, and the type of HDD.

5 hours is about right for your hardware.

Ideally yes, you should have 2 x 8 GB RAM modules purchased as a kit of 2 which ensures they are nearly identical and will work in dual channel mode. It is however a very minor point and would do almost nothing to shorten that 5 hours, like a few minutes.
If you are very careful you could match up an existing 8 GB RAM module with the exact same module.

Thank you for the reply, since you stated that 5 hours is about normal for this update, I shall leave the RAM amount on my PC as it is.
This part of my question is now resolved and I shall wait to see if someone can advise me on the driver update issue before I click on the resolved link.
