@zbook @Megahertz OK that explains it i don't even have a clue how to update ram on a laptop , i looked on the bottom it has a HP service sticker with a last service of ram stick installed. so looks like HP did it or one of there service centers. kinda dumb founded as to why they would stick a different speed ram, unless it dose not hurt the laptop i don't no. i know i wont be able to do i don't have laptop tools.

On some HP laptops the RAM is easily accessible.
On others it's located behind the keyboard and is harder to approach.

Mismatched RAM can cause unexpected changes in performance.
Many end users are unaware of mismatched RAM problems.
The problems are generally seen in the forums.

Most laptops has a dedicated back door so all you need is a small screw driver.
Post a HWinfo image as I did of the memory in row 1 (fastest memory) so we can look for a matched pair.

The right panel shows the MoBo details.

I want to see the memory on Row 1. Click on the Memory - Row 1 and on the right panel the memory details will show.

Have a look at the image on post #2. On the right panel you have all memory details.

Task manager displayed system reserved 2.1 and HWinfo displayed mismatched RAM.
The RAM can be left as is or it's a nominal cost you can replace the RAM with matching SKU.
The gain would be approximately 2GB RAM.
I must disagree. There would be no 2 GB RAM gain. The 2 GB is reserved by the hardware for graphics use. That has no relation to the mismatched RAM speeds. All the mismatched RAM speeds are causing is that the PC4-21300 RAM is running at the slower speed of the PC4-17000 RAM. I have a similar mismatch in my laptop - 1 16GB PC4-19200 and 1 16 GB PC4-17000, and it has no effect other than the faster ram stick running at a slower speed.

It would be a waste of money for @Tonyb to buy another stick of RAM to just match the speeds. The correct answers were given in posts #5 and #4. There is nothing wrong with the system.

You might want to look at post #5 and see if there is a BIOS update for the laptop.
