    Slow Internet Broadcom Adapter

    Hi everyone,

I have an issue with my Broadcom BCM57781 network chipset that seems to be unrelated to damage or anything else that would cause ethernet adapters to go haywire.

The issue I'm experiencing is that I get very slow internet speeds on sub 1Mbps, I have to disable or uninstall the adapter and reinstall it and thereafter the speeds are restored again.

I know this is not an issue with the download server because I've tested it with my phone using wifi and the speed is maxed out at 100Mbps.

I've seen many people complain about this issue with Broadcom's consumer level networking equipment and was wondering if anyone knows a fix to this.

So far I've tried every single driver that's supported on Windows 10 for this adapter including Microsoft's generic driver all of them at some point has this same symptom.

This issue has not started recently, it has always been like this on Windows 10.

I'd be very grateful if someone could shed light on what's happening here.

    Windows 10 1909 (18363.836).

1 - Its a decade old chip , could likely be failing

2 - Could likely be that the cad wire is damaged as well

3 - Your Sata drivers could be outdated or left to be generic

4 - Your hard disk activity could be high on the times you experience lower download speed , check it using ctrl+alt+del

5 - Try this driver as a final resort Broadcom NetLink (TM) Gigabit Ethernet v.15.6.0.14 download for Windows - deviceinbox.com

Thanks for your response. To comment on each of your points.

1 - It is likely that this is the case. But if you look at newer models in laptops they seem to be doing the same thing on Windows 10.

2 - Even in laptops this exact same issue occurs, it's unlikely the exact same defect is replicated across such a broad spectrum of models and series of Broadcom networking chipsets current and old.

3 & 4 - This is without a doubt not the case, I am running an SSD and the transfer rates / general performance is optimal at all times, I'm using the Intel chipset SATA3 controller and not the Asmedia controller

5 - I've tried this driver version multiple times before, same thing occurs.

I've seen problems with the Wi-Fi adapter but can't respond, can't read the too-light text in the post. I think not everyone uses a dark theme.

So you came here with your mind set that all Broadcom BCM57781 miss-behave on Windows 10 and it is not your hardware failing nor your Windows is corrupted .

Well in that case you can not blame Windows 10 still , the chip was made 5+ years before Windows 10 and was never certified to be running on Windows 10 thus Microsoft never guaranteed it might work smoothly .

In such case filing a complain at Microsoft Support site might be your best bet and not here .

P.S I have another model of Broadcom Lan that I use all the time and it is not giving me any trouble so it is not Broadcom chips in general having issues

@Berton he just copied and paste the model number from some website that has it styled and this usually make this site editor inherit the formatting , it requires someone skilled with these sort of editors to remove the inherited styling and this is not the case with common users . But a quick way around is for you to select the text , then it all becomes white text on blue background , kinda readable then .

Bud I'm not here blaming Microsoft as I said I'm just here to get some answers or to have some light shed on the matter, maybe someone experienced the same issue and thereafter was able to correct it.

For the formatting I apologize for that but I didn't see the formatting change since I'm using dark mode, if I did I wouldve changed it obviously.

Your approach is unnecessarily hostile and that way for no apparent reason whatsoever.

My solution is to just get a gigabit PCI network adapter.
