... I did get a notice a couple of days ago that there were updates for my machine but they were from HP support. There were 5 altogether but 1 was for a BIOS update and there was a Firmware one as well ...
    Joan,

Out of interest, what is the full name used by HP for the firmware one?

I also had the coincidence of both having the same version number for about four months last year.

    You could wait until
    - your next bios update to find out that the firmware version stays the same whilst the bios version changes, or
    - your next HP hardware driver update of something with a name like 'HP system firmware' to find out that the firmware version changes whilst the bios version stays the same.

    Denis
I will certainly do that if I can remember to do so. Strange thing is under driver detail nothing has been installed. Under the firmware tab it clearly shows the bios version.

As a favour could you click on the 'Firmware' tab and note the bios number then check the HP site for the new bios update number and the existing one's number. Thanks but only if you have time. I don't want to trouble you.
I'll get back to you with the info, it might be later or tomorrow but I'll let you know.

OK got a bit more info. This is what the Support Assistant shows are recommended for my system.

HP Notebook System BIOS Update (AMD Processors)
    SoftPaq Number. sp99905 Version. F.12
    Size. 14.36MB

My version at present is F.05

    HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI
SoftPaq Number. sp 94861 Version. 7.0.0.0
    Size. 40.02MB

My version at present is. 6.4.1.0

The other updates it shows that I don't really need are a driver for Bluetooth and an update for the Recovery Manager and another for the System Event Utility.

This is the other info asked for,

Many thank for that. So if your bios was updated then the new firmware/bios should show up in device manager.

Odd. Mine shows a generic driver (?) and driver details shows nothing required for the device?

I haven't updated it, I did say in my earlier post that that was what Support Assistant showed was needed for my system but I hadn't updated it.

Yes, I know thanks, that's why I said 'if' you would update it, it looks like device manager would show the new bios version.
