Here is how I read the Bios update copied straight from the website instructions:

Update AGESA 1.0.0.2 for 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen™ CPU full support

    Note:

    1. If you are using Q-Flash Utility to update BIOS, make sure you have updated BIOS to F32 before F40

    2. Before update BIOS to F40, you have to install EC FW Update Tool (B19.0517.1 or later version) to avoid 4DIMM DDR incompatibility on 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen™ CPU

It is very clear to me how to proceed for updating, too many comments confusing the issue.

Well, reinstalling Windows solves that problem!

If you are going to go for it again, just be sure you follow the steps mentioned here, and the Gigabyte instructions for Q-Flash to the letter.
To the very letter! Thanks. I'll let you know how it turns out. Hopefully, not in the form of questions.

And it was trying to do the F32 update, that I couldn't do. It would not run because of the file type. So I went to the EC FW Update tool instead, thinking that it could help. Apparently, going from F4 to F32 has a lot of "things" going on. I believe I might need something from ALL of the comments, including yours, to get this puppy sleeping!

What do you mean "it would not run"?

You "run" the Q-Flash utility by pressing the END key during boot. When Q-flash starts you point it to the USB thumb drive location with only the F32 BIOS file on it (the file should look similar to: X79UD7.F1 ) and then Q-Flash will install the update.

What is happening that looks different than that?

After you download the F32 BIOS, you need to un-zip the folder, then copy the file: B450AOPW.F32 to the USB thumb drive.
That is the file you will use for Q-Flash.

That was the issue. That and the Efiflash wouldn't run. That's the file that was the "Setup" file, but wouldn't run. I shoulda made that clearer. Sorry.

B450AOPW.F32 is the file that I get other than the Efiflash, and the autoexec, the BATCH file. I see no X79UD7.F1 file.

Updating the BIOS as we speak. Well keep you apprised.

F32 installed flawlessly. I can't believe how far I set technology back trying to do something that seems to be so simple!

Where are you in the update process?

I'd hope that you're on F50, and that your Ryzen Gen3 CPU is now working.

Almost! The update is done. The CPU, well, I somehow bent some pins on it. I apparently didn't have it securely placed in the socket. I know you are probably saying, this guy needs to stop these abortions and let a REAL tech have it. Well, I'm too stubborn for that. I ordered another CPU (OUCH!). You wouldn't happen to have a "straighten out the pins" process do you? Oh well, an expensive, but well earned lesson. Thanks so much for your help.

Thanks. I tried the mechanical pencil one, but I didn't have the right work surface at my desk. The needle thing may be just what I need, so I'll try that one too. Thanks.

Glad to hear you got it done. Congrats.
It's like changing the brakes in a car. So easy once you've done it once or twice!

I was not aware AMD was still using pins as late as Ryzen 5. I use Intel in my builds mostly, and haven't dealt with pins in a long time.

Again, your motherboard manual will have instructions with pictures to guide you in installing the processor in the correct orientation (direction). It is very important to put it in the socket facing the right way.
