    Vaio SVF1521C2EW Web Cam not in Device Manager

    Hope someone here can help with this. I have posted in Sony community but up to now I have had no response.

    My friend has a Vaio Product Name: SVF1521C2EW which I updated from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 and replaced the HDD to an SSD two or three years ago. Everything works as normal except that he has now tried to use the web cam but there it is not showing in Device Manager!
    Now with the COVID-19 lockdown he needs to use Zoom but is unable to with the laptop because of the web cam not showing.
    Where can I download the web cam driver and any other web cam utility to be able to use the laptop camera?
    Device Manager below;

    Any help will be most appreciated.

    There is this list- nothing obvious for a webcam:
    Sony VAIO SVF1521C2EW Laptop Windows 7, Windows 8.1 Drivers, Software | Notebook Drivers

    Expect to have to use an older driver.

    This is one circumstance where I would suggest you try a driver updater tool. E.g.
    Drivermax (2 free a day)

    There is this on Youtube:

    Thank you @dalchina.

    I am told that I need to install ‘Sony Firmware Extension Parser’ Windows 7 64 bit 21/3/14 in this page
    Drivers and Software updates for SVF1521C2E | Sony UK but first I need for the webcam to show in Device Manager. I think that the Unknown Device may be it but I have to get the hardware ID to make sure and I am told that the driver is a Windows generic driver.
    This is more difficult to deal with as I have to do it remotely!

    Ask your friend to double-click on the Unknown Device then, when the dialog opens, click on the Details tab and change the dropdown Property list to show Hardware IDs.

    The data showing after the VEN_ (i.e. vendor) and DEV_ (i.e. device) entries can then be looked up online using the PCILookup database which should show the hardware manufacturer and device model of the webcam.

    Hope this helps...

    Hi @RickC thank you for you suggestion.
    I now have the Hardware ID for the unknown device which is as shown below;
    Vaio SVF1521C2EW Web Cam not in Device Manager-2020-05-19_14-38-05.jpg when I enter SYN& and 5001 in PCI Lookup it does not show any results! No data available in table!
    but it also shows in the general tab that there is no compatible drivers for this device so still do not know what the device is;

    Things I have tried to solve the camera not showing in Device Manager is to install ‘Sony Firmware Extension Parser’ Windows 8.1 64 bit 25/10/13EP0000600937.exe (which is independent of Windows version) from the Sony support as directed by Sony forum member but still the camera does not show in Device Manager.

    Just stuck don't know what else to try.

    Have you tried a driver updater tool as suggested? Might not help, but what's to lose? And ignore any results other than what you need.

    The SNY5001 'unknown device' appears to be the 'Low Pin Count' controller which apparently needs the 'Sony Firmware Extension Parser' (SFEP) driver.

    It looks like you've tried the Windows 8 version of the driver but the Windows 10 x64 bit SFEP driver can be downloaded from Sony here.

    Hope this helps...

    Thanks @RickC will download and install it tomorrow when I connect remotely to my friend's pc tomorrow. It may not resolve the camera issue but at least it will get the exclamation mark for unknown device sorted.

    Oh well there is no solution to the Sony Vaio camera issue apparently

    The following from someone else in another forum;
    “The Sony website has no webcam driver for Sony Vaio laptop
    SVF1521ASN/B. So I called Sony India support number and they inform me that the
    webcam for this laptop does not come with a separate driver! Therefore, they
    advise me to downgrade to Windows 8, the original OS that came with the laptop
    so as to get back Imaging Devices in Device Manager and to get the webcam
    working again!!
    This is ridiculous! Sony has no other way/method to get the webcam working in Windows 10.
    My laptop is working fine with Windows 10 and I do not want
    to downgrade to Windows 8. Is there no other way to get the webcam to work??
    This is highly frustrating and just shows how Sony does not do anything to resolve
    such issues/problems!!”
