Two people on the zoom meeting yesterday used phones, one had constant problems trying to connect.
Can't say about zoom, but just finished 2h meeting on Teams, PC , and phone both, and sound and picture was just fine.

But, if you use phone for webcam, you connect it on your local network, and only share picture and sound with computer.

Connecting with phone may be better option. Teams is fine (for Android). Don't know about Zoom

if you buy Logitech you need to be aware that the tech support is extremely weak to say the least
    good product,real bad supporte
This is correct (sadly) - but it's across the board unfortunately either.

Alas! What kind of support you expect for a camera? You plug it in, install accompanying drivers & software (if you want to) and it just... works?

Unless you want to so some fancy things or discover low-level problem with the driver implementation or the way colours are encoded in the stream or...

    Hi there
I think these days any "generic" web cam gives sufficient video quality -- what is usually appalling is any sound -- this is where effort needs to be concentrated -- audio chips can be made tiny and very high quality incredibly cheaply so why do we always have to put up with hideous sound when using webcams for skype, zoom , other online meetings etc.

Using a phone isn't an ideal solution either as then the audio and video can easily get out of sync - especially if using any sort of blu tooth device / chipset.

I think the OP should worry about sound quality --even a cheap and nasty web cam these days will yield a full HD (1920 X 1080) picture / video stream --more than good enough for typical video conferencing unless you have huge mega cinema size screens / monitors.

Even on Youtube there's an incredible amount of really poor sound -- probably too many people have got used to wearing those dreadful cheap bud earphones. !!!

    Cheers

Perhaps the poor sound quality is due to excessive audio compression when teleconferencing?

Lack of anti-aliasing filters and - most importantly - poor mike position are to blame.

NB one should not use camera mic for videoconferencing...

    Hi there
    @krzemien

There's no reason why not if the built in Mic's are of sufficient quality and can do the job properly -- perhaps we should subcontract this stuff to the C.I.A who are probably experts in micro sized technology of this stuff !!!

The less bits and pieces around a Workplace (whether at home or in a conventional office) space --the better -- It's Ok while tinkering around with hardware etc to have bits of kit all over a bench - but if you need to work as in a normal conventional office then clear desk of all unnecessary clutter. !!!

    Cheers

To achieve maximum intelligibility - so the recipient can actually understand the message - one needs to place microphone next to the sound source. It's as simple as that.

Otherwise you also pick up anything else in the room: various noises, echo and reverberation (hello glass-abundant meeting rooms) which fuzzes the message. Which - if then converted incompetently onto digital domain and processed using dodgy codecs and finally spat to some micro-speakers with no usable bandwidth - gives just garbled noise.
