    Asus Crosshair VIII drivers Question

    Hi,

Just installed a fresh windows and I'm a bit lost on which drivers must be installed. Especially when it comes to the Amd chipset driver and Realtek Audio Drivers.

It's the second time I must reset windows on this new build due to problem and conflict.

I don't want to install Armoury Crate as it created a conflict with Trident Lightning software in my last windows install so I must rely on websites and motherboard CD and your expertise

Which AMD chipset driver I must install?

    I installed: 2.04.04.111
Asus motherboard website download is: Version 5.12.0.38 & Version 1.7.29.0115
CD that came with the motherboard don't even detect the 2.04.04.111 I supposedly installed.

As for Realtek Audio driver, I have not installed anything myself. Windows did.

    In device manager I have: v. 10.0.18362.1
Do I need to install the one listed on the Asus motherboard site? Version 6.0.8751.1
CD that came with the motherboard don't even detect the v. 10.0.18362.1 (windows)

If it were I, I would let the motherboard CD do it's thing, install the drivers from it. Then after reboot and Windows 10 update says everything is up do date, finally install the chipset drivers from AMD website.

I basically agree with "NavyLCDR", except I'd get the drivers from the Asus web site (ROG Crosshair VIII Hero Driver & Tools | Motherboards | ASUS USA) in preference to using a CD. The motherboard is new enough that the stuff on the CD is probably not very old, but it's easy enough to download the needed things.

About the only things I see there that I wouldn't bother with are WinRar (it's just a time limited demo) and the AMD RAID drivers (unless you are doing RAID). The BIOS update is more risky, although I haven't had a problem with one since my first UEFI motherboard a few years ago.

in case of ASUS and AMD chipset drivers, yes it is really confusing. because they have different numbers and sizes.
5.12.0.38 seems to be equal to V18.10.20.02 .
for me (x470-f gaming board) latest chipset driver version is V19.30.28. it has 464 MB size. after unzip it has 1.08 GB size.
i think they didn't upload this new version for that crosshair board.
i don't know difference between those low size (~50MB) drivers with these (~500MB drivers) but i always install those that have bigger size.

for audio drivers head to ROG forums. there are detailed instructions there for ASUS boards.

generally don't pay attention to DVD application that won't detect newer drivers because it has old software etc. latest drivers from ASUS website should be better.
