    Pluginz,

What do you want me to do? Is this for command prompt or powershell?

But I think I have got to the root of the problem. The other day I got a new srttrail.txt log, that is after working my way down through layers of problems. This said 'bad hard disk' as I mentioned. Now I have been able to work on this. From kyhi's rescue disk I was able to run seatools, my version will not work. In fact I have a few and none work for this hard disc. This was so from the start. So I have not been able to run SMART. But now I can, and with a tempromental resue disk that is really hard to boot off - so I have some doubts it is working properly. However, this stated that the hard disc fails SMART. To check this I ran the following command from command prompt (wmic diskdrive get status) and I have 'pred fail' with a reason code of 0; that is supposed to be above 0! So there you have it, the hard disc is on the way out. And, this is why reset pc fails with a problem.

On reset pc does anyone know about this? I made a new iso of windows to boot off as mentioned. It reset my pc to 1% for five times. Now the option along with the advanced options button has gone from the DVD. Yet the first iso still has this page. Can I get it back, will it come back? (Ok, I can always burn another iso of this anyway).

    :)

With Kyhi boot rescue you can use software preinstalled on the desktop to check the drive or download software to the desktop.
With Ubuntu you can use software designed to work on Linux (Hard Disk Sentinel Linux)
Hard Disk Sentinel - Free Linux version

See if you can run Sea Tools for DOS or Sea Tools for Windows:

    Zbook,

Thanks for all of the links.

Do you want me to pick one of these pieces of software? Or should I run all of them or even as much as I can?

As you know them all, will CrystalDisk work with Windows 10 as only XP and Vista is mentioned ?

For CrystalDisk, Hard Disk Sentinel and HD Tune, are they supposed to be run from a boot disc, if so is this included with the download? Or can I put them on the hard disc and open them from command prompt; able to do that??? (I could go through the websites but none of this is immediately apparent).

After a quick run through of the methods to take a screen shot; they all seem to be done from within windows. Is there a way of doing this in WinRE? (Snipping tool in Kyhi's - but all is not reliable i.e. powershell does not work).

All of the bootable flash drives can be created today and used in the future if needed.

See if you can run Sea Tools for DOS.

Crystal Disk works on Windows 10.

Kyhi boot rescue uses Windows enterprise and is loaded with desktop software.

HD Sentinel can be ran when using bootable Ubuntu/Linux > see PC World link

Ok, will turn to this as soon as I can.

So far no version of seatools works DOS or windows; that is except the one included with Kyhi's. Its seems as if Samsung do not normally along this. They do have dedicated software from 2006 hutil. Which I inded to give a go.

Ok sorry Troubleshot I assume people know sorry man.

So lets go back to the roots as far as we can to try and find this. This could very well be a corrupt bios with INT request handlers running priority masking your bios with some bullshit boot drives which should match in size i should mention. Do you have any XMS memory profiles in bios? A kernel32 modification with XMS extended memory swap.

The tidy ones which are pretty stealth ive found go back to very early 1990's so if you can, get yourself a Windows 98 second edition bootable CD Rom. With this disk you can choose to load Dos without CD Rom drivers which should give you virtual floppy drive access to all other drives which seem impossible to read.

Something like this for me I class as an interrupt request auto handler. They live on, as you say Ramdisk and Himem thru a quick one shot spike of voltage manipulation on the motherboards ACPI bus.

Its Important to go through all your mobo thermal sensors regarding fan speeds temps, voltages, like CPU PCI bus PCIe bus, Audio modem riser slots ( Small audio PCIe). Best suggestion for now is to set everything to ignore, and keep an eye on fans make sure they all stay on. So yeah, you'll know the fans are spinning but the shitbag INT request has no permissions to any of your motherboards apm settings, so struggles to get a successful first refusal request.
Now go through each SATA and any PATA drives you have and disable any that are not being used. Go through all of them methodically, making sure both Windows XP ( IDE ) Pata drives are selected 'Not Installed' also if you have Compatible and advanced IDE Parallel and SATAs spare, give them the bye bye too.
What about any Serial port or Parallel printer port bios settings? Anything? These can handle interrupt requests.

The cache of a virtual drive can get the attention of the CPU before even the RAM gets a look in, all depending on the Auto handler BIOS instruction, Have a mooch through your bios information and see if you can find a bios version this is normally the give away. Different Auto handler boot sectors inform different INT requests regarding virtual drives. so with these extra drives anythings possible.
MsDos can talk to non Dos partitions. They fight abit but removing is INT request can be done with some persistence.

I fried an Asus ROM chip by fitting it backwards, woweee she was mega hot, couldnt even hold it in my hands. Flipped rom chip back round and INT 13 08 bye bye

Ah one more thing you can try. Go into Windows and Device Manager. Go straight to your CD Rom DVD Rom drive right click for properties then the very far Details TAB. Have a scroll down there for multiple instances of the same drive and different ID's. If you then goto 'Update Drivers' then choose to 'Have Disk', and take tick out of 'Show Compatible Hardware' This then will show you exactly what if any corrupt shitty hardware drivers have been installed along side your Cd Rom

Command.com c: should deviate it from running any corrupt filechk0001

Let us know if you need any more info. Sorry to waffle on peace out

    Ok Pluginz,

Just on the BIOS alone. Here goes. They do not give much away. They are Phoenix SecureCore Tiano Setup with only 5, well 4, menus: SysInfo; Advanced; Security; Boot and Exit. Nothing else is connected other than the sata port 1 - the hard disc and sata port 2 - the CD/DVD that are both listed in SysInfo.

Hope this helps for the meantime.

    :)

    - - - Updated - - -

    ...

And on Device Manager. There are no multiple instances of the CD / DVD Rom; all ok along with no other hardware drives installed along side the CD / DVD Rom.

Rom chip must have been hot for you.

Ahh these damn restricted Laptop chips, I totally understand what you mean. Not alot to change.
What year is the laptop? There was a switching point between Windows XP and Vista where the option for IDE on most systems got removed. You might see an option for Legacy USB support as an alternative.

Not sure if youve already thought of this, worth a try.
Create a special bootable gpt usb Windows installation in NTFS and 4096 and find a x32 Windows that supports gpt and then remove or disable the CD Rom from starting altogether.

Then add the correct GPT attributes and San Policy right from the get go, which will make the Hard Drive Partition/Volume write protected with real integrity. Once Windows setup started, 'load drivers' and check out to see if the particular chipset/driver .inf file/files are 'Read Only'
If not then have a poke around inside the .inf driver file and look at both FONT and encoding. Once a correct Windows is installed, go straight to the Group Policy editor and change a few options.

    1. Only use Windows Classic theme. Should stop any 16bit applications from running
    2. Use 'ctrl alt delete' always for login

Then Control Panel and 'Accessibilty' options then 'Make things easier to see. Option to never load a BITMAP for background and also turn off any mouse sound and display shortcut settings. Thats if you dont need anything like that.

China now seemed to have killed the motor industry and me not too happy about that. Total shame the same Chinese mobo companies kill their own products to keep their businesses going, i understand that. But to make a machine vulnerable on purpous is a shit thing to do. Some people upgrade, some folk cant afford it and to top things off, they get their bank accounts emptied by hackers?!? which will put fear into 95% of people and they buy a new computer system.

Loop restart play the game otherwise things go wonky. Not a coincidence.

    Stay safe bud

    Zbook,

Here are some of the images you wanted.

    CRYSTAL DISK MARK

Diskpart - remove drive letter, but returns on reboot / Recovery Parti-d.png

Diskpart - remove drive letter, but returns on reboot / Recovery Parti-e.png

It was not possible for c: nor f:

    HD TUNE

Diskpart - remove drive letter, but returns on reboot / Recovery Parti-health.png

Diskpart - remove drive letter, but returns on reboot / Recovery Parti-benchmark-read-error.png

Diskpart - remove drive letter, but returns on reboot / Recovery Parti-error-scan.png

The benchmark test errored and stopped. I tried this a few times.

    HD Sentinel

At the moment this will not run from UBCD>GParted which is Linux with roxterm.

Have a look and see what you think. Rest to follow.

Please note the hard disc has only recently started showing this. GSmartControl on UBCD now says hard disc has failed; when it never stated this before and the hard disc has not been used other that in WinRE.

Backup any important files on the drive.

    Replace the Samsung HN-M500 drive.

There are different software for crystal disk.
One is for SMART and the other for benchmark.
