    Touchpad too sensitive . . .

I have an Asus laptop, purchased new in September 2019, W10, Firefox, auto-updates all on, has the latest touchpad driver. Win version 1909.

An overly-sensitive touchpad has been a problem since new, and also was on my previous laptop, an HP. Yes, it's set on the lowest-sensitivity setting. Also, the "Disable cursor while typing" does not work. Not sure if it ONLY applies to a mouse.

My main problem is that when I'm typing, the cursor will often start jumping around, and just the slightest incidental touch of the pad will send my post before it's done. Very annoying.

FWIW, I bought a new Dell in 2006 and never had this, nor any of the other annoying issues I've had, with the several laptops I've had since then. I did not buy another Dell, as they are probably no better than any others now.

I've searched for solutions to the touchpad and it's always a dead-end -- despite it being a pretty common problem. Microsoft forums and "experts" are completely worthless. I tried a 3rd party add-on but it didn't work.

    Anything?

Hi, touchpad settings ad GUI vary a lot; Synaptics touchpads have at least 3 quite different GUIs for example.

Look for a setting called palm check - designed for exactly what you describe. Example:

Another useful setting adjusts sensitivity, which you are already using: e.g.

The other option is to have the touchpad automatically disabled when the mouse is connected. This used to be easy, but now seems less common.

Sadly this has been typically only made available for so-called precision touchpads.

There are 'hacks' to install precision touchpad drivers posted.

So, there are 3 settings to look for.

Then there are programs like this... no idea how effective they may be:

I have no separate "Synaptics" control, like what used to be piggybacked on the mouse settings. It is all under "Settings/Touchpad" which does not have as many settings as the old way -- typical, MS always takes what works and makes it not work.

Mine shows as being a "Precision Touchpad," not sure if that's the difference or they just don't piggyback it any more.

Disabling while mouse is connected won't help me any, as I don't use a mouse and don't want to. Using a mouse makes a laptop kind of pointless.

I will check out those 3rd party work-arounds. Thanks.

    Try 'Additional Mouse Options'

    or
Win key + S (search box)
    touchpad properties

    takes you straight there

or via the Control Panel, Mouse

I do NOT have the piggybacked touchpad control as with my previous machines:

All I have is the lame controls under "Settings/Devices/Bluetooth/Mouse/Touchpad."

"Advanced" or "Additional Settings" under "Touchpad" just takes me back to the above picture or to advanced gestures -- none of which address my problem.

Kindly remember I cannot see your machine nor can I guess what may be the problem as my crystal ball is down for scheduled maintenance. So don't criticise me for showing you how to access these things on a properly configured typical PC.

Now it's up to you to prove you have a driver installed for your touchpad. I will assume you know how. Thank you.

Sorry, didn't mean to come across that way. It's just frustrating. Frustrated with MS mostly.

I checked yesterday, the latest driver was already installed.

I have the same issue with my HP laptop. I've disabled the 'tap with a finger to single click' and that ensures the curser doesn't wander all over. But it would be nice if the sensitivity could be reduced even more (I have it on the lowest sensitivity anyway).

Try here to see if there is some actual mouse/trackpad software to be installed..

Download Center | Official Support | ASUS Global

My HP has the Synaptics panel which allows me to change sensitivity as mentioned above..

Have you tried changing the sensitivity in Settings? If not, go to Settings, Devices, click Touchpad in the left pane and adjust the Cursor speed.
