W10 generic chipset drivers vs Intel very old ones

    Good day.

    A stupid question.

What's better?: Leave some chipset components drivers as default, as per w10 installation (generic LPC chipset, pci to pci brigde, etc) or install Intel chipset drivers even if those are very old (2013).

Thus, for instance, LPC driver becomes ICH8 LPC driver, and pci to pci bridge becomes ICH8 PCIe channel A (just an example).

I haven't noticed no differences at all whatsoever either by using the "generic" ones vs Intel's.

    Any ideas?

Allow driver updates through Windows Update. That may give you the latest available ones. Intel has deleted downloads for a lot of old hardware (not necessarily very old).

Or search the Microsoft Update Catalog. http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Home.aspx

Running WU doesn't offer anything new. It seems happy with those "stock" drivers. I updated it manually from a folder I have got with some older Intel chipset drivers. Should I leave those alone and just use what w10 put on installation?

I'd leave the ones that came with Win10.

Yeah, chipset drivers that were last updated 2 years before Windows 10 was released are probably not the best ones to go with.

Observation: if Windows is working and doing what is wanted it becomes like updating the BIOS, don't screw with it. When things change to not-so-good is when I dig into it. Of if the computer has become too old to do as desired replace it. I have a couple of 10-year-old Notebooks doing just fine with Win10, 1 is Home and 1 is Pro.
